    Default Remembering my mom

As Mother's Day approaches my thoughts turn to my mom
Who passed away 9 years ago.
A simple, gentle woman who loved her children beyond measure...

An English rose, transplanted to a Manitoba farm in the dead of winter.
Barely into her teens..alone...I can't imagine how she must have felt...
Hard, long days but she loved the dances on Saturday night at the community hall
Her first driving lesson landed her in the ditch...never drove again lol
My mom marched through life, head down, ploughing ahead through all adversities.
She regretted her lack of education and felt ashamed of her spelling and grammar.
Her Christmas card and newsy letter were the first to arrive for friends and family
Treasured more than she ever knew.
She believed and saw the good in everyone and was rarely disappointed. I think
all those she touched in her life strove to measure up to her expectations. Her
expectations were so basic, kindness and loving your fellow man above all else.
Mother Teresas quote " If you judge people, you don't have time to love them."
were her words to live by.
As she walked the streets every day, her cheery hello and a smile greeted all
whom she passed. I am sure her greeting put a smile on so many faces over the years.
Maybe her words to some of them were perhaps the only kind words they heard all day.
I often think of the difference she must have made in so many lives.
One of my dear friends here on the site mentioned the poem " The Dash"
You know... the little line between the birth date and death date.
That line is the whole life of that person and what their life was about.
My mom, her fierce strength tempered with gentleness and compassion
    Tending her flower garden forever
Thank you for everything you gave me

Didn't realize the part my mother played in my life until she was gone ... wish I could get her back for just a little while to say the things that I never did .

I know kijiji....It doesn't matter how much time elapses, it still seems
    and feels like yesterday.

How blessed you are Noof to have your mom...treasure every day because it will never be the same when
she is gone. A mother is the heart of the family.

Yes Stan, sometimes we think we have our loved ones forever. Never put off saying or doing something for
another day. Sometimes there are no more days before we know it.

If there is happiness in my heart,
it's because you helped put it there.

If there is gentleness in my beliefs,
it's because you showed me how to care.

If there is understanding in my thinking,
it's because you shared your wisdom.

If there is a rainbow over my shoulder,
it's because of your outlook and your vision.

If there is a knowledge that I can reach out -
and I really can make some dreams come true -
it's because learned from the best teacher of all. . .
    . . . I learned from you.

A mother's heart is a special place where children always have a home.

    This poem is by unknown
I did change some words to make it more my own
It says pretty much all I want to say
We should treasure our mothers each and every day
Don't wait for that one special day that may not come again

    I Still Miss Her

    It seems like only yesterday
    I sent a Mother’s Day card
I didn’t think it would be the last
I signed it with love and hugs from D

Now that she has gone away,
It doesn’t feel like Mother’s Day.
There are no more chances to send a card,
To ship some flowers, to make a call.
    No more visits,
    No more fun.
I cannot hug her or kiss her cheek.
I cannot even share a laugh.

It all too quickly became the past.
    Each visit was special
And yet I felt there was much more to come
All the pictures have been taken,
All the memories have been made.
All the words have been spoken,
All the letters have been mailed.

The thing I miss the most of all
Has got to be her voice
Whether on the telephone or talking face to face.
If I could have my wish it would be for one more conversation

I know I’ll see her again some day,
We’ll share the sights of heaven.
    We’ll talk, we’ll laugh, we’ll hug,
    We’ll kiss….it’ll be Mother’s Day once more.
But until then I’ll be a mom for Mother’s Day
    instead of Being a daughter.

My mom passed away 16 years ago peacefully.and Dad within a year of that, it was obviously a time of great sadness for me and for my family. But, it's also a time for fond remembrance.

Toughest day of the year for me. I miss her alot. She raised 5 kids on her own. And now that I am old enough to appreciate just what a daunting task that was, she is not here for me to thank her. But as I told a good friend once, all I have to do is think of her smile, and that takes the sadness away. It never gets easy Dee, but it does get better.

Thank you mom for our moments in time
You loved mauve lol...sometimes I wear your fav fleece jacket
It feels like a hug from you [[[[[hugs]]]]]
Such a lovely happy childhood you gave me...it hangs around my neck like a rainbow lol

Your mother is always with you...

She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street

She's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks

She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well

Your mother lives inside your laughter
She's crystallized in every tear drop...

She's the place you came from, your first home
She's the map you follow with every step that you take.

She's your first love and your first heart break
Nothing on earth can separate you.

    Not time, Not space...
    Not even death....
Will ever separate you from your mother

You carry her inside of you....

To live in hearts we leave behind
    Is not to die.

I sure wish I had my mom to buy for this Mothers Day
She has been on my mind a lot this week
Everything I do seems to be connected to her
Making a meal in the kitchen, looking out the window at my flowers
I am in so many ways like my mother...how blessed I am

I got all my good qualities from you Mom.
Isn't it lucky you had more than enough for both of us
