    Default It`s Never Easy..........

The older we get the more experiences we go through that teach us how to cope day to day living and the problems that arise from life so we can hopefully transfer that knowledge to our children in hopes that it may ease their pain in times of crisis. About 1 1/2 yrs ago we had to put our beloved Zeus(yellow Lab) to sleep at 11 yrs old. It almost killed our family although I`d been thru it with 4 dogs before him.........my son(24) came home 3 days after Zeus`s passing and announced this is a family and a house that needs a dog and we agreed....this was going to be my son`s first pet of his own. He did all the leg work, bought all the pup`s needs etc etc and is raising a great family dog........last week we discovered a lump on the dog`s front elbow. It`s Osteosarcoma a deadly bone cancer that will take out 1 1/2 year old Sawyer`s life in about 3 mnths max...The toughest part is watching him now play and run etc etc knowing we haven`t long to enjoy him. We opted against doing the inevitable now because all of his actions are of a normal and healthy dog..........Recently, as a few of you know, I`ve buried friends and family more than my allotment I`m sure......but this is by far one of the hardest things I`ve ever had to do. We are heartbroken.......Thanx for listening.

So sorry to hear this about Sawyer Cobra... We had a very similar experience with our bloodhound cross Toby... the bone cancer was in his nose... We had to put him down a few weeks after he had minor surgery done to alleviate pressure that had forced one of his eyes to roll over... you'll know when its time too unfortunately... I wish you & Sawyer the best with the time you have left...

& mostly I pray that this was a misdiagnosis & that Sawyer gets to stay with you a lot longer... probably not but you never know...

Oh these animals have a way of grabbing our hearts Cobra...

The joy though, the joy they give to us so freely is so, so worth the pain of loss

    Hugs...Dee

I could only pray it was a misdiagnosis but it isn`t....our vet is a good friend of mine and had the pathology run 2X, besides his lump is about the size of a ping pong ball. If you look for images on the web of Osteo...it looks exactly like shown. On the bright side some of my son`s friends came over today and Sawyer had a ball playing with everyone....he`s getting tired more often and we`re giving him pain meds so for now he`s having a great time, allowed to eat people food, treats galore etc...he`s sound asleep on the couch on his back with his legs in the air LOL...........I should be so lucky LOL....thanx hutch

Non dog owners don't realize that these are members of our families not simply animals. Losing one is like losing a loved one and is extremely hard. Think of the good times you are having cobra and savour them.

There's just something about the unconditional love of a dog:there is no replacement.
I have no words to sugar coat what is happening to your family.Do try to take some comfort in the fact that you have the opportunity to make his last days the best they can be...not like finding your dog dying at the side of the road after being hit by a car. Also know that there's MANY good people, here & everywhere that feel your pain, & hope time can heal your heart quickly.
    God speed sir.
Lock your wife & your dog in the garage for 24 hours. On the 25th hour, open the door & see who's glad to see you.

Had our final meeting with vet yesterday re anything we can do etc etc..........Sad to say the tumor is growing and nothing can be done to save him.........on the bright side aside from the obvious limp he`s strong, eating, playing etc etc normally so far. We`re told he`s a strong dog and the pain meds 2X daily should keep him "normal" for a couple mnths maybe. LMAO...he`s thrilled at finally getting "people food" all the time and has now learned to beg when we`re eating meals. So we wait now....damn shame.

Just a note for my many friends that extended their well wishes for Sawyer...........I flew back from vacation in the Keys yesterday because Sawyer`s sarcoma had gotten so large it started splitting and bleeding. We put him down this morning.......sad, sad day around here.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and well wishes..........it`s never easy.

Except for the 2 years of my life I spent in an apartment building,I have enjoyed the love of a pet every single day.I will be 60 years old in 3 weeks. The losses don't get easier:they get harder.
Life is precious, and dead is for a long damn time.Love & honor your family & friends.
