Yes he did post asking about getting into IPTV..... but he said "I will only be using a paid for service so no worries about the free stuff" --- so he's not interested in Kodi/XBMC.
He also said "HD content is important to me if that helps."
He said "I am able to manage IKS though." so I was just asking which IKS he was using - IMO IKS south sucks but north is very good - especially if you are into sports.
The point I was trying to make was that he may not be happy with IPTV if sports was a biggy for him.... he would be better off using IKS north if he could get it --- as the picture quality is better on IKS than IPTV and IKS is more reliable.
He answered my question and said sports was not important................ so IMO IPTV is a good choice and now he's just trying to narrow it down to a choice of receivers.
I think he has chosen a couple of good ones.

My Friend you have what I said and want perfectly.
I currently have satlobo south but have no trouble to get north if I wanted. I always thought the USA programming was better than Canucks because of there rules to have to carry a certain amount of canuck content whether anybody wants to watch it or not
I am surprised to hear you say that IKS is more stable than IPTV. I am seeing almost weekly hits. I thought IPTV was zero down as some have promised? Mostly want to switch for better stability along with more channels and no dishes required? If I do it looks like a 254 but have just found out about the new model 256 Mag but not supported by most servers I hear?
If you are watching IKS south you are absolutely correct - the stability stinks - on the other hand IKS north is very stable---- I can't remember the last time they were hit --- it was quite a while ago.
I used to love IKS north - but it got to a point where every 4 weeks you knew you were going to get hit and then you would be down for about 4 days on average. It used to be hits on Thursdays then they changed it to Tuesdays with extra hits thrown in on Thursdays and sometimes Friday or Saturdays.
You will find almost identical content on IKS north that you had with IKS south... but it will be Canadian commercials. Some of the channels may be a little different like Food Network Candada versus Food Network USA. But the big cable shows and local nationals will be the same like - CNN, Fox News, ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC, Bravo, Hallmark, Turner, DIY, Discovery, Disney and you'll get most of the movies that you had on HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore and Showtime but not as many.
You'll get the NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Centre Ice, NBA League Pass, MLB, NCAA, ESPN and the big UFC PPV events.
So to sum it up IKS north is not weekly hits.... there is very little down time....
You will not find zero down time with IPTV.... there is always going to be missing channels or freezing on some channels.
Where IPTV shines IMO is their Video on Demand movies.... the good services are like Netflix on steroids...... they have all the latest movies without having to search for them and they are usually pretty stable and decent picture quality - but not as good as satellite. The good services add new movies on a daily basis.
I've tried a lot of different boxes and to me it is not a big deal... for IPTV I have a MAG254, 3 different flavours of Avov, a couple of Rokus, an M8 and some other receivers sitting in a box in the corner somewhere LOL....
I think nobodyspecial and others have said the DreamLink T1 is a good IPTV box and I would probably try it.... but you can't go wrong with a MAG254 or an Avov either.

Jedi:
I know we are off topic but I just want to comment about Discovery channel north vs south.
I have discovery on my legit sat. service (north) and watch the same discovery on south because on north we have crap like "Canada's worse driver" because of the CRTC regulation about having to provide a certain percentage of Canadian content.
Another thing about discovery is I like the show "Gold Rush" but here in Canada the episodes are weeks behind what is broadcast in the USA.
Your not thinking of trying the New Mag 256 in the near future are you?
It just makes sense to buy the latest and greatest model to me and since it's been out since earlier this summer I don't
know why the servers haven't up graded themselves to be able to support it??
Looks good DU.- that SATA port for a hard drive is a nice feature.
Does the private IPTV server use the Stalker app to connect or did Zoomtak include a Server Settings menu like the MAG and Avov boxes use so that you can insert several different private server URLs and save them?

As I mentioned above some of the channels for north have diferent content like Food Network, Discovery and Bravo - but if your main interest was sports then it's an excellent choice.
The next receiver I try will probably be a DreamLink T1 and maybe the Zoomtak that DU mentioned.
