    Default looking for advice

hey guys i have some problems and i hope somebody could answer i've been reading and the more i read the more i get confused. i have some older android boxes that instead of throwing them out i'd like to upgrade the kodi on them, the android versions range from the 4.1 to 4.2 i don't care whats on it what i'd like to do is just put linux on it and open right into kodi but everytime i read it seems you can't do. I thought you'd just be able to upgrade it something like you would with windows if anybody knows or can help out i'd appreciate it.
    thanks

I know nothing about your problem, but in the old days we would try different ideas and if they worked great if not then start over. You said you had a couple of boxes you were going to throw out anyways, so try to load linux. good luck

I have been considering doing something similar. OpenElec has Linux imbedded. With OpenElec you get rid of the Android OS so you will lose your play store apps. I still need to research this more but reflashing to openelec sounds pretty easy. Lots of Youtube vids on the subject check it out.

ya the openelec was a success on one of the boxes i was having issues with i believe it was the mxiii g and it seemed ok but i reflashed it back to the original firmware and has been better, but i did find a good alternative in the spmc it worked on the jynxbox m6 but i didn't want to push it so i just installed a few addons and seemed to be ok that one was the hardest because it was only at android 4.1.2 but it worked
    thanks

Openelec & Libreelec USB boot sticks work great. I am using an old 2GB USB stick with Libreelec Krypton 7.95.3 Beta running on it, with the Xenon build installed. Works great, not buggy, & better than on my installed Windows versions.

Scooby, try spmc(old) a spin off of Kodi/xbmc. It still works great on my 4.1 & 4.2 android devices. Google it for more info
