    Default Germany from Ontario (London)

    Hi Everyone,

I am very new to FTA and looking to get some channels in German if possible. Would anyone be able to direct me to a good site to figure out if I can get german channels in London Ontario via FTA? Or know if I can. I only found one satellite that has some of the german channels but is below the horizon for me, astra 1 19e I believe.

    Thanks for any help.

I cant help a lot here, but I do know that 19.2°E can't be seen from your location.
I speak only English, & sometimes that not very well, so when it comes to a different language I'm a poor choice for help.

I'm positive you will get an answer though. We have a pretty active forum here, & I'm sure someone speaks enough German to help

for true FTA, there is only 1 tv channel and 2 radio available that i know, they are unscramble (that means no IKS service will be need it), they are in satellite AMC 1 - 103.0° West in polarization 3740 V (this sat has pretty good channels in english) its in band C (you need a bigger dish and a lnbf for band C) or satellite Intelsat 9 -58.0° West in polarization 3840 H its also band C. The channel tv channel is DW and the radio channels are DW Radio in both satellites.

But if you have a FTA box that can be use with IKS service, then in satellite Anik F3 -118 West, there is like 6 channels, these are: DEUTSCHE WELLE (DWTV) CH 9823, EURONEWS (EURNS) CH 9793, GERMAN KINO PLUS (GKINO) CH 9825, MY GERMAN TV (MGTV) CH 9822, MY SPORTS GERMANY (GRMSP) CH 9824, PROSIEBENSAT.1 WELT (PRSBN) CH 9821 (This channels can only be seen using IKS service and a Ku lnb) or satellite: Nimiq 1 - 91.0° West, this one only has 2 channels, DW and Radio Herz (once again you need IKS service to get these channels) i hope i have helped you.

Another true fta spot for DEUTSCHE WELLE (DWTV) is on c band at Intelsat 9 at 58w and quite catchable from your spot. The DW channel at 103w is mostly in English:

    Intelsat9-58w

    3840 H 27690

On the contrary, my set up allows for me to scan in approximately 1,200 open channels on true fta. There is a lot more true fta open up there then most realise.

I completely agree. There is so much True FTA & OTA, that it's hard to find just one thing to watch.

I'm not sure where you came up with your info nrules387??? Maybe you just need a bigger dish & a better receiver

Thanks guys this is great news. I have two 18" dishes on my current house, came with it and just found a 30" dish with a star choice dual KU lnb ( not sure what this means as I am new to all FTA/Satellite). Will the 30" be big enough to get these channels and some extras? I also bought a used viewsat vs pro, hopefully this will work for what I need.

The channels & TP's mentioned by axel are C Band. You need at least a six foot polar mount dish.

The 30" SC dish will work for some true FTA, but not nearly like a 36" round dish will

I had a 6' mesh dish prior to my 8' solid install and DW came in with good signal quality. You would need to find out what by-laws there are concerning the height of satellite dishes before attempting such an install.

As I posted earlier, approximately 1,200 true fta channels up there- couldn't agree with you more Mapleleaf.
