    Default Thoughts and Prayers

Thoughts and Prayers to all those affected by the evacuation of Ft. McMurray Alberta. I can't imagine what you folks are having to go through right now. As an owner of 2 dogs I could not imagine having to leave them behind to fend for themselves, brings tears to my eyes. My thoughts and parayers are with you and I am sure all other fellow Canadians are to. BE STRONG FORT MAC

Agreed...calling it a catastrophe would be an understatement. There are several relief funds set up if you wish to donate.

A great disaster I followed events heard on the radio yesterday that there was no loss of life... Many people were taking it really, well as material things can come and go... You only live once.. Our hearts and prayers are with our neighbors to the north..........

No doubt bro...but I'm willing to bet that some are uninsured, & some of the insured are excluded for bull**** reasons...give if you can.

Yup....the major insurance companies MADE a fortune off Katrina by delaying claims long enough for people to default on their taxes and have their land taken over by New Orleans and sold.....to guess who?....the very insurance companies that delayed the claims so they could develop the land.

Friday, May 6, 2016, 2:11 PM - While thousands continue to flee Fort McMurray and surrounding areas, many have been forced to leave the family cat or dog behind.
Animal lovers have taken to social media to post pictures of their furry loved ones and home locations in an attempt to locate them. Local firefighters say although animals may be faced with a dangerous situation, they are resilient and will often times find a place to hide away from the smoke and flames.

"They're vulnerable in the same way that we are. They're low to the ground which can keep them away from the heat a bit more but the animals are just as susceptible to that [toxic smoke] as we are," Vancouver Fire and Rescue captain Jonathan Gormick told News 1130.
If they are unable to get outside, Gormick says pets will often head towards the basement.
"Quite often we find them somewhere cool like down in the basement if it's been an upper floor fire. Or they've found their way into a closet or down in a corner and somehow been protected from the heat and toxic gasses," he said.
Supporters of Alberta Animal Rescues (SOAAR) is a registered non-profit organization that helps animal organizations in the province with funding, material and volunteer aid. The agency has put together a list of rescues and kennels (below) that have stepped up to help those affected by the fires.

The Fort Mac Fire - Pet Rescue Facebook group is another resource many people are using in attempt to locate their pets. The group has over 2,000 members.
"We've been working every hour, every minute, just going hard with no sleep," a member of the group and rescuer Brandon Bryldt told CTV Friday. "Today, with the time we were allowed to be in town, which wasn't very long, we got eight cats and six dogs. I have four on the way to their owners right now, and there will be more tomorrow."
Many neighbourhoods remain inaccessible with evacuation orders in place. Police or firefighter escorts are the only way to travel around the city and many animal agencies are expressing their frustration at the inability to access animals.
"It's nonstop. We're more so just getting desperate pleas from people to go into Fort Mac and get their animals, which is not something we can do," Melissa Foley of Farm Animal Rescue and Rehoming Movement told CTV. "I mean police are on every corner stopping people from doing that."
On the bright side, some flights carrying evacuees from the area have welcomed pets on board to fly with their families.
Canadian North Airlines have tweeted photos showing dogs resting at the feet of passengers.

Finally some relief for Fort Mac residents and firefighters, the rain has arrived, hope it helps in their battles against this massive fire which has doubled in size over this weekend to over 2000 square kilometers.
