ROSE'S BIG NIGHT HELPS BULLS OVERCOME MAGIC

THE SPORTS NETWORK

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Derrick Rose finished with 30 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 101-93 victory over the Orlando Magic.

John Salmons added 15 points for the Bulls, who have won a season-high four in a row. Luol Deng had 14 points and nine boards, as Chicago made 24-of-27 free throws on the way to the win.

"We're feeling pretty good but we can't think we're one of the best teams out there. We still have a long way to go," Rose said.

Matt Barnes had a season-high 23 points for the Magic, who had won their last two. Vince Carter scored eight points before suffering an apparent ankle injury in the fourth quarter and leaving for the locker room.

Jameer Nelson added 10 points and 10 assists in Orlando's loss, in which Dwight Howard was limited to nine points to go with his 12 rebounds.

Chicago led 90-75 after Salmons' jumper with 6:11 to play, and Orlando lost Carter moments later. He drove to the hoop and had his shot blocked, then fell to the ground in pain and grabbed his ankle. Carter limped to the locker room and did not return.

However, following Carter's departure, the Magic went on a 10-0 run during which fresh substitutes Ryan Anderson and J.J. Redick each hit a three. Nelson provided two baskets, as the Magic got within five with 3:08 to play.

But Rose responded with a jumper, and following Nelson's missed layup, Deng made two foul shots for a 94-85 game with 2:28 left.

The Magic again rallied, and trimmed their deficit to 96-93 with 27.2 seconds remaining after consecutive threes from Barnes and Redick. But Rose went to the line and sank both attempts, and Orlando missed the rest of its shots as Chicago held on.

"It's amazing that we were within shouting distance in the fourth quarter because we didn't compete at the level we needed to compete at," Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy said.

Threes from Rashard Lewis and Redick closed the first quarter for a 29-26 Orlando lead. The Magic led for most of the second quarter, and were ahead 48-43 when Mickael Pietrus made 1-of-2 free throws with 2:14 left.

But Chicago closed the half on a 9-0 run to take a 52-48 lead at the break.

A three by Kirk Hinrich and Deng's layup opened the third to expand the Bulls' lead to nine, and they led the entire quarter. Rose ended the frame with a jumper to make it an 84-72 game moving to the fourth.

Game Notes: Orlando shot better from three-point range (14-of-37, 37.8 percent) than it did overall (33-of-92, 35.9 percent)...Chicago made 42.5 percent of its shots, including three of a total five attempts from long distance.
