REPORT: WELKER OUT FOR THE PLAYOFFS WITH TORN ACL IN KNEE
THE SPORTS NETWORK
Houston, TX (Sports Network) - New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker reportedly has a likely tear in his left anterior cruciate ligament, ending his 2009 season just as the team enters the playoffs.

Welker was hurt on New England's first possession when he attempted to make a cut following a reception. He limped off the field and was eventually taken to the locker room on a cart.

According to the Boston Globe, Welker is set to undergo more tests Sunday and probably tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, as well. The newspaper described the injury as similar to that of quarterback Tom Brady, who was hit in the knee by Kansas City's Bernard Pollard in Week 1 of the 2008 season and missed the rest of the campaign.

Welker finished the season with a career-best 123 catches for 1,348 yards and four touchdowns, as the Patriots went 10-6 and won the AFC East. New England will host Baltimore next week in the wild card round of the playoffs.
