Lending further credence to initial specification whispers associated with Motorola and Verizon’s upcoming Droid Devour (a.k.a. Calgary) smartphone handset, a sassy silver version of the device has been spied in the wild by the tech gurus over at Boy Genius Report (BGR).
Citing the reactions of a contributing source connected to the popular blog, BGR notes that the Devour comes equipped with the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system (version 2.1) – making it the third such device carried by Verizon Wireless.
The Devour also apparently boasts a decent keyboard that’s easier to use than the one currently attached to the Motorola Droid, which is perhaps related to the Devour utilising Motorola’s proprietary MOTOBLUR user interface (UI).
While the report earmarks the Devour’s trackpad as a notable success in terms of effective navigation, the handset is also likely to come equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, a 1420mAh battery, on-board GPS technology, and colour choices of black or silver.
Other features crammed into the Devour include fast online access via Verizon’s EV-DO mobile broadband network, a modest 3.0 mega pixel digital camera, a 3.5mm headset jack point, a digital magnetometer, and support for microSD data storage expansion.
One distinct element the Devour supposedly lacks at this point is immediate support for CDMA and GSM network carriers – which would certainly suggest the initial Devour handset will be released within the confines of North America as opposed to around the world.
Expect a little more concrete information regarding the Devour, its regional releases, and price points, during the course of this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
