i am trying to stay away from e-bay because the shipping cost more than the receiver
i dont really know what type to get , for right now just a good receiver to hook up . it doesent have to be the top of the line

You don't need a "C" band receiver, you can use your FTA receiver, all you need is what is called a Vbox, it will take your Diseqc 1.1 motor commands from your FTA receiver and convert them to use the linear motor on your BUD.

Look here for more info.

http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/vbox.htm

Then using the correct LNB info (LNB freq = 5150) in your satellite listings, you can have a "C" band setup, you can even get a combination "C" and "Ku" band LNB for your BUD and away you go.

They're not terribly complicated to set up, there's a good number of us on this forum with those units, so we can walk you through the setup.

If it were me, I would be interested in capturing DVB-S2 signals, & for that you need a 10' dish, HD receiver that can decode S2, & preferably one which can blind scan. I have two 10' BUD's I use for TV. My choice was for a receiver was originally a Coolsat 5000, & Coolsat 6000, then I switched to Openbox S9.

I think I would want to know the brand of receiver before I spend shipping money on it. It could be a old antiquated General Instrument which is only good for analog signals.

A good used Coolsat 5000/6000 will cost $30 plus shipping. A new Openbox is $100. It will open everything free but 4:2:2

I agree with augoldfinger you will want to catch the DVB-S2 signals i use my TT 3200 PCI card and my Diamond 9000 HD on my 10 foot BUD. The TT 3200 also does 4:2:2 video

In total agreement with my buds Gold and SS, you need an hd receiver as most open hd channels are found on c band. The only problem is that your 6' dish might be a bit too small for s2 channels. I have several good working sd units which are much better equipped for true fta then your receiver.
