Paulie Maliganggi put on the performance of his career in stopping Vyacheslav Senchenko in nine rounds to take the WBA Welterweight title back home to Brooklyn tonight.
Senchenko – Unbeaten since turning pro ten years ago and picking up 32 wins in the process – was dominated in almost every round by the excellent Malignaggi who used speed, movement and a sharp jab to inflict plenty of punishment on the Champions face, causing his left eye to swell up and close completely shut.
By the ninth round, referee Steve Smoger had seen enough and called a halt to the bout with Malignaggi landing his shots at will with the Ukrainian struggling to see.
Malignaggi moves to 31-4 and will now look for big fights defending his new World title back home.
