View Full Version : Grounding issue?

I have 2 dishes and 2 receivers. On dish 1, I have 110 & 119 grounded and connected to both receivers on a 4X1 switch for each receiver. On dish 2, I have 91 and it's not grounded but it's only connected to one of the receivers. I still suffer from signal lost when on receiver is on 110 and the other is on 119. Why is that?

Please explain a bit on how you have the system grounded.

Is it through a ground block?

A ground wire connected to the switch? (if so then both switches must be connected)

Is just the dish grounded?

Stuff like that here.

And what brands and types of LNB and switches are you using, sometimes different types of LNB's will not play nice with each other.

I'm using a ground block with 4 input and output. 2 wires from 110 and 2 wires from 119. Then they are outputted to their 4x1 switches for each receivers. Receiver 1 has a cheaper 4x1 switch that's pretty good and receiver 2 has a Chieta 4x1 switch. The wire from 91 is not grounded and goes straight into port 1 on the Chieta switch while 110 is on port 2 for both switches and 119 is on port 3 for both switches.

You may have a ground loop, try grounding the two switches together to the same ground wire as the ground block, be sure to use 12 gauge solid copper wire for all ground connections..

Also what type of LNB's do you have?

This is important as some have internal switching (Dish DP twin LNB's) and you need to follow their setup.

The 110 lnb is a multi sat lnb from Directv and the 119 lnb is a 118/119 ROC CIRCULAR DUAL LNB.

And the one for 91 is??? what type?

What could be going on is a feed back from one of the receivers to the other switch.

I would use the same type of switch on both setups, also the same type LNB's for 110 and 91. (can't do much about the 118/119 LNB type)

Then ground both systems to one single main ground wire and ground point, all with 12 gauge copper wire, all connections to the main ground wire should be done with split bolts. (available at most hardware stores)

Try using the same connections to the switches, start with 110 on port # 1, then 118/119 on port #2, then 91 on port #3, if all switches are setup the same, you wont have any possible conflict.

And see if you can get another Chieta switch like the other one, be sure to power off everything (with the switch in back) before disconnecting any switch.

And check to be sure you didn't criss cross any connections, all coaxes from the #1 side of the LNB should go to 1 switch, and all coaxes from the #2 side of the LNB should go to the second switch, mixing them up can cause problems.
