Posted By William Mackay: Dan Rafael is reporting that that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia is a done deal for July 14th in either Anaheim or Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rafael said this on his twitter: “Richard Schaefer says @AmirKingKhan vs @DannySwift is a done deal for July 14, location TBA (Anaheim or Mandalay Bay).”
What I want to know is how Golden Boy was able to get this fight lined up without the 24-year-old Garcia being stripped of his title by the World Boxing Council, because he’s supposed to be defending his title against his mandatory challenger Ajose Olusegun. It looks like one of several things happened: A. Olusegun was given a step aside payment by Golden Boy B. the WBC was persuaded by Golden Boy to let Garcia bypass his mandatory C. Khan was told that he’d be getting one of his two lost titles back by the IBF or WBA, which would make the Garcia fight a unification bout. In unification bouts, the champion is often given permission to bypass his mandatory challengers.
Khan really wants to capture a final title before he moves up in weight to the 147 pound division. He somehow sees another title win as something that would validate him as being the best fighter in the division, but I can’t see it proving much other than him being able to beat a guy that looked terrible against a shot to pieces Erik Morales. That’s who Garcia recently defeated last March by a 12 round decision to capture the World Boxing Council light welterweight title. However, Morales, looking flabby and out of shape, was still able to break Garcia’s nose with his jabs and give him a lot of problems. I wasn’t impressed at all with Garcia, and I think a lot of guys would beat him if given the chance. I think Garcia is mighty lucky that he’s getting the payday fight against Khan because I think Garcia would have lost to Olusegun and not gotten very much money for the fight.
Also on the card will be a heavyweight bout between Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell. Although both fighters are considered contenders, this fight is a mismatch because Banks little more than a cruiserweight with a weak chin and poor stamina fighting at heavyweight. He doesn’t belong at this weight in my view, and he won’t last long against Mitchell unless he can run or come up with some power. Banks can punch a little, but I just don’t think he’s got the power needed to stop Mitchell in this fight. Mitchell was hurt by Chazz Witherspoon in the 1st round recently, but was able to rally to score a stoppage in the 3rd round when Witherspoon ran out of gas and stopped punching. If Banks can jump on Mitchell in the same way that Witherspoon did, he could possible get an early stoppage but I’m not counting on it.

Exactly what I said, the promoters bribing the World Boxing Council. This will be a good fight, the biggest upset of the year. The young Puerto Rican boxer will show Khan what he is made off.

LONDON (Reuters) - Former champion Amir Khan will fight undefeated American light-welterweight Danny Garcia on July 14 for the WBC title.
The Briton's rematch against Lamont Peterson, scheduled for May 19, was called off after Peterson, who beat Khan in controversial circumstances to win the WBA super-lightweight and IBF light-welterweight titles, failed a drugs test.
Peterson has appealed against his failed drugs test and Khan is still waiting to find out whether or not he will be given back the belts he lost in the defeat.
Should that happen, or the titles be declared vacant, Khan's fight against Garcia, which will take place in Los Angeles or Las Vegas according to Khan, could be a unification contest.
"It's a good fight for me, Danny Garcia is unbeaten in 23 fights and has 14 knockouts so it will be a tough test for me," the 25-year-old Khan told Sky Sports on Wednesday.
"It's a great match-up, the WBC title will be on the line which I'd love to win. We don't know what's going to happen to the other two titles at the moment because the hearing will be in the next couple of weeks and then the governing bodies will make their decision."
Khan said he was still frustrated at being deprived a chance to avenge his December defeat by Peterson, who was awarded a split-decision after Khan was docked two points.
"I'm still angry because I trained so hard for that fight in the Philippines and LA then in the last week it was called off and all my training went down the drain," Khan, who has lost just twice in 28 fights, said.
"I'm still upset because I wanted to win my titles back and settle the score."
Philadelphia-based Garcia, 24, took the WBC title when he beat Erik Morales on points in Houston in March.

In another thread, I posted a breaking news scoop - that Mayweather is considering a fight on May 19, 2013 against Amir Khan. Although Danny Garcia is undefeated, his resume shows unimpressive wins against his last three fights (UD vs Eric Morales, SD vs Kendall Holt, and UD vs Nate Campbell). Comparing his stats with Khan demonstrates why Garcia is an underdog in this match.

Khan's prospect of a big fight with Money would be a very strong motivation for the Brit to beat Garcia in an explosive fashion. I don't see this going the distance.

Nice for you to mention Kendall Holt 27-5 and Nate Campbell . Neither of them are on Khan resume, I wonder why? Holt faced the colombian Torres and the mexican Nick Diaz. Garcia has the punch to put away Khan in the later rounds and Khan has no chin, so if there will be a Knockout, the Rican will produce it. I declare an upset, the biggest of the year.

Should be a super fight... am looking forward to it...
I think the fight could go either way..
Khan super boxer with a ???? chin...
But a better boxer than Garcia...
Garcia has staying power.
Hence I think if Garcia wins,, he has to KO or drop Khan a couple times..
If it goes the distance without the above,, I like Khan.
In any event,, should be one of the better fights of the year... (on paper,, anyway)
