At WrestleMania XXVIII, The Undertaker extended his WrestleMania winning streak to 20 by defeating Triple H for the third time in WrestleMania history.
Besides beating Triple H, The Undertaker has beaten 16 other men at WrestleMania: Jimmy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Giant González, King Kong Bundy, Diesel, Sycho Sid, Kane, Big Boss Man, Ric Flair, Big Show, A-Train, Randy Orton, Mark Henry, Batista, Edge and Shawn Michaels.
In the words of former WCW/WWE superstar Bill Goldberg, “Who’s next?”
Will it be Goldberg? Sheamus? Wade Barrett? CM Punk? The Rock? Chris Jericho? John Cena? Sting? Brock Lesnar? Someone else?
Without a doubt, thinking about Undertaker’s next WrestleMania opponent is exciting. There are so many worthy opponents. However, is anyone worthy of ending Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak?
The answer to that question is yes.
What? Who is worthy of ending Undertaker's streak?
The Undertaker himself.
How can The Undertaker end his own streak?
Let’s imagine that a phenomenal up-and-comer has challenged The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania. The Undertaker accepts the challenge. A No DQ Match is set for WrestleMania.
The match is the most difficult match that The Undertaker has had in his entire career. After a long back-and-forth struggle, the challenger gets the upper hand on The Undertaker. Undertaker is not looking too good in the match. He's outmatched for the first time in his career.
The challenger hits his devastating finishing move (two or three times for good measure) on The Undertaker. Just as the challenger is about to pin Undertaker for a convincing 1-2-3, wrestlers from the back (who don’t want the streak to end) stop the pin count, beat down the challenger and leave him unconscious.
Thanks to the wrestlers from the back, the Undertaker now has a chance to pin the challenger. However, The Undertaker finds out about what has happened and cannot bring himself to pin the challenger. He’s too proud to do such a thing. He realizes that he was beaten and outmatched, and feels that it's time to pass the torch.
The Undertaker leaves the ring and gets himself counted out. The streak is over. The torch has been passed. The end.
Would The Undertaker do such a thing? Who knows?
However, in a 2003 interview on The Score, The Undertaker claimed:
As long as I can be out there in the ring and I'm hanging with the Brock Lesnars and Kurt Angles and Triple H's...if I’m on an equal level with those guys, why should I retire?
My biggest worry in life, as far as wrestling is concerned, is that I’m in the ring and some father who watched me for years takes his son and goes, "you know son, this is The Undertaker here...boy I wish you could’ve seen him when."
That means its time for me to hang it up.
If a day comes when The Undertaker is not on an equal level with the top wrestlers, do you think he'll "hang it up" and voluntarily end his own streak?
