" Honey Hunt "in nature has always been a common practice in many ancient cultures for thousands of years. Today, honey hunting is still a traditional practice for the Nepalese culture.
Cradle of one of the largest bees in the planet, the Apis laborious , honey hunting is still a way of life for many people in this country
The bees build their hives in the foothills of the cliffs, which makes hunting honey extremely difficult and dangerous. After driving out the bees with smoke from fires burning in the hives, they have to use rope ladders and baskets in order to remove the precious combs.
Harvesting takes place once a year and begins with a ritual of harvest, which varies from city to city usually beginning with a prayer and then an offering of flowers, rice and fruit. The process takes from two to three hours, depending on the location and size of the hive.
This part of Nepalese culture is definitely a sight to behold. Tourists can come to witness the courage of the honey hunters, the allure of the Nepalese countryside and the beautiful houses of bees.
