NOWITZKI, MAVERICKS FINISH STRONG TO DOWN SPURS

SPORTS NETWORK

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki struggled for three quarters but spurred the Mavericks in the fourth, scoring 16 of his 26 points in the final frame to lift Dallas to a 112-103 comeback win over San Antonio.

Nowitzki connected on a mere 3-of-16 shots from the field heading to the fourth before making 7-of-12 to lead Dallas to a 42-23 advantage in the final 12 minutes.

Jason Terry added 21 points and eight assists, and Erick Dampier scored 14 points for the Mavs, who have won three of four.

Tim Duncan ended with 31 points and 12 rebounds, while Tony Parker and Richard Jefferson donated 21 and 15 points, respectively, for the Spurs, who have lost two of three and trail the Southwest Division-leading Mavericks by three games.

Dallas was down 80-70 heading to the fourth and scored the first six points of the stanza to inch closer.

With the game tied, 92-92, with under five minutes to play, Nowitzki followed Terry's three-pointer with one of his own, adding a mid-range jumper after a Spurs turnover for a sudden 100-92 advantage.

The hosts cut the deficit to four on a pair of occasions, the last on two Parker free throws with 1:13 to go.

Nowitzki again answered with a three-pointer and a block of a Parker jumper. Terry added two clinching free throws with 35.2 seconds left, and Dampier's three-pointer, the second of his career, in the waning seconds put the finishing touches on Dallas' dominant final frame.

It was 26-all going to the second, and a late Manu Ginobili three-pointer and Jefferson slam gave the hosts a 54-51 lead at intermission.

Dallas was on top 65-63 before the Spurs ripped off 15 straight points late in the third. George Hill started the spurt with a three-pointer and Roger Mason ended it with a jumper near the three-minute mark.
