By Chris Williams: Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza says that former World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be facing 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) in a fourth fight in November rather than facing WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley immediately in a rematch, according to the Manila Standard.
The rematch with Marquez may be getting pushed ahead of the Bradley rematch, because the fight didn’t sell out at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with a reported 3000 seats that went unsold for the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. In addition to that, there’s talk that the fight did underwhelming pay-per-view numbers, which were slightly better than the PPV numbers for the Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight in 2010. Clottey, like Bradley, was also a Top Rank stable fighter, and the decision to match Pacquiao again him was poor one in hindsight.
If Pacquiao gets past Marquez, Pacquiao will then fight Bradley again, unless Floyd Mayweather Jr. shows interest in fighting Pacquiao first.
Ariza said to the Manilla Standard “How can you go to Mayweather and ask him for a 50-50 revenue split. They did nothing to protect Manny.”
Marquez lost a questionable decision to Pacquiao last November in a fight where he seemed to dominate the Filipino fighter, but had to settle for a loss. The most logical fight after that bout was a rematch between the two fighters, as the fight did excellent PPV numbers. However, Pacquiao preferred to go in another direction, hence the fight with Bradley.
Obviously, that wasn’t a good idea because the Marquez fight would have made a lot more money. Someone needed to speak up and tell Pacquiao what time it is, because the Bradley fight was a bad one for Pacquiao, because Bradley’s boxing skills were too good for the aging Filipino fighter to deal with, especially in the later rounds of the fight.
Marquez is a bad choice for Pacquiao because he knows how to defeat him too, and he’ll only dominate him again and put the judges in the position where they’ll have to decide to with the more popular fighter [Pacquiao] or the guy that appeared to win [Marquez].

i would actually prefer he fight marquez over bradley anyday. i loved the first 2 matches the third was ok i guess.
but if theres no title on the line will they still sell as ppv? or market as a final showdown between them.

Agree on that......................
I think Cotto deserves a rematch, after all he took on PBF and did well. Cotto is a PPV attraction although he'll have to go down in weight it will make an interesting match up. jmo

That is super funny rokko!! one of em kinda looks like me...
I agree Fib,,, Cotto and Manny would do good business...
I doubt yer paisano would want to come down in weight.. para que? Manny not
even a title holder anymore.... Manny not going over 147... he said it again.
Manny vs Khan? Now that would stir this old man's interest.
I believe Manny is still the best fighter in the world at his weight class.
I just don't believe he would do too well against bigger, heavier opponents.
Manny is only 5' 6" tall.

Sadly, Manny is at the end of his career. He got a bum deal on this last fight, but come on folks, committed Manny would have cut through Bradley like a hot knife thru butter. But Manny now is not committed to fighting and it really has shown his last two fights. He's not in shape and he's lost that killer instinct. Could be be seeing the impact of going off PED's?

I love him, but Manny is not same fighter anymore and I'd have to say Marquez will win the next fight if they meet. I hope he does what makes him happy, if that's not boxing, so be it. He's not happy in the ring.

Manny has been in the news ALOT over the last year [or more]
Politics, court, his charity, doping, his wife, tax invasion,

He OF COARSE is not focused! For a guy who isn't focused,, he killed Bradley every round
maybe Bradley matched him in 2 of them. The fight I saw was straight out of an episode of ''Pros vs Joes''

He is 33 years old and has plenty of time to shine, he just needs to get his focus back

He will do fine.... in his weight class... he hasn't knocked anyone out lately at his weight class..
Would be much harder to do with bigger boys.
At his height, he really can't put on much weight and remain effective. Not from what we have
seen lately.
As we said,, even Marquez outweighed him in their last bout.

Since you mention his inability to produce a knock out, must say that he did outweighed Bradley in his last fight. This wasn't a factor in his earlier wins over bigger opponents such as Cotto and others, it has been in his latest. I have to agree that he can't put on much weight and remain effective. I said it before, he is a natural jr welterweight but since Arums insisted on invading other weight classes was forced to stay at welterweight, after noticing the punishment he was receiving from bigger opponents.

Agreed Fib,,, Manny, Marquez, Bradley and Khan's ideal fighting weight is around 145 to be exact...
Marquez weighed 140 in his last fight... hell,, he took more punches in his last fight then Manny did
against Bradley..
Bradley is a small fighter... he would never fight Floyd..
Bradley vs Marquez would be a bad matchup,,, Marquez only does well with fighters that come to him
so he can counter punch, he looks terrible when he has to do the chasing. Bradley does not wade in... as we saw with Manny.
Khan vs Marquez is the matchup i would like to see... before Marquez hits 40.
I have read nothing about a Manny vs Marquez fight.... I really don't think it will happen.. not a lotta
interest anymore. To be honest,, I really don't think they even want to fight each other again.
