JOSESITO LOPEZ TO FACE SAUL ALVAREZ ON SEPTEMBER 15
By Ben Thompson | July 09, 2012

Sometimes your first instinct is the right choice. After weeks of speculation, the opponent for WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has finally been revealed. According to several reports, Alvarez will be defending his title against Josesito Lopez when he returns to the ring on September 15. Lopez is coming off of a career-defining win, stopping former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz in 9 rounds after breaking his jaw. Ortiz was orginially supposed to get the coveted assignment to face Alvarez, but the upset-minded Lopez derailed those plans, forcing Golden Boy Promotions to come up with Plan B.

Prior to the upset, that Plan B had already been discussed according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. "We have contingency plans in place, which we have worked out with Showtime, because you never know what will happen," Schaefer explained when he first announced that Alvarez would be facing Ortiz in the main event of a card dubbed "Knockout Kings", which was originally supposed to be televised on pay-per-view. "Of course, Josesito Lopez would be part of those contingency plans." Evidently, despite the fact that numerous opponents were rumored to be in the running, it looks like Lopez was the frontrunner all along.

The bout will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will reportedly be televised on Showtime, going head-to-head with the Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez pay-per-view event taking place on the same date and in the same city.

I like upsets too but it's not going to happen. From 140 to 154 is just to much of a leap.

lopez has a lot of heart but he weighed only 144 for the ortiz bout-hes moving up to 154--canelo is going to come to the ring at 160 or more--i say there is too much difference--canelo by ko

I gotta agree,,, Canelo too big for Lopez....
Manager said Lopez would stay at 140 cuz he had trouble gaining weight...
Must be getting paid lotsa dough for this... don't think it will be worth it.
Body shots will tell the tale..

The time limit between the Berto fiasco and the fight didn't give Josesito enough training time, yet you saw his performance against a much bigger Ortiz. This time he'll have all the time of the world to orchestrate a major upset. Ortiz moves around better than Canelo, he is a stand and trade fighter. Josesito's ability to punch on the move will make him a hard target for Canelo's combination to body and head, while his uppercut will be doing damage to Canelos jaw all night long. This will be a good boxing match, that is why GBP decided to go ahead with it. lol

If Lopez can stay away from the towheads aggressive style and not get caught on the ropes... he will do well..
Any way you look at it,,, its gonna be a good fight.
Canelo pretty much fights like Ortiz..
The redhead should put in two mouthpieces... don't wanna get a broken jaw.
