You can go to the microsoft site and doaload it now as a trial HOWEVER beware, if you load it on your current drive there's no turning back other than a total reformat.
The beta copies I have tried aren't bad but need improvements still. The op sys. is more based for touch and tablets use.

If I can get a legal copy for $40 then I will (whether I use it or not). Just another toy to file with all the other OS I have. Although I did try to read a DOS 3.1 the other day (5 & 1/4) and no go. Don't understand as it only has been about 20 years.

If you use vmware you can just download the ISO and run a virtual machine using the trial. It's relatively failsafe and easy to configure you can allocate as much or as little hard drive space as you want. minimum ram would be 500 mb but I don't run any virtual machines with less than two gigs of ram.

we've been running it since it came put on aug 16, hate it. this version is a tablet version should not be on a desktop or laptop. people are gonna be confused as hell with no start button.

Windows 8 is a mess, they could give this OS away for free and I wouldn't go anywhere near it.
And whositwhatnow is correct, the average user will find it very difficult to navigate between folder without the start button. If I installed this on my parents or grandparents PC my phone would never stop ringing.
another reason to give microxxxx another 700 bucks for their "ultimate" version of xxxx *sigh*
