My wife and I are going to organize a benefit for a dear friend who has a rare form of terminal Cancer, she is happy to wake up everyday, but then stresses over paying simple bills or getting food for her house....we don't think that someone should have to live what little time they may have left worried about having enough money to even Eat!

I have never done one.... I have researched quite a bit, and we have been to a few in the past....

Would certainly be interested in whatever tips you fine folks can offer....things that I could use direction with :

I would like to set up some type of donation system, either with a bank or whatever... also would like to have something in place for any businesses that can donate goods or services so that it will be a tax deductible .....really not sure what this would all entail...

we are thinking about a huge spaghetti dinner , and getting a local VFW to allow use to host it there ( our friend is a Vet )
Already have quite a few companies on board to donate, and building a committee to help organize more things to help....thank you for any tips to help make this work...

Talk to your local VFW as well as Legion for some pointers. A friend of mine did this some time ago and the Legion as well as the local cancer center were big help.

I’m not sure how you go about setting it up but when you get the backing info go ahead and post it. Credit card donations would probable be the easiest through pay pal or the like I would think. If its against the rules to post that then pm it to me. Your right no one should have to go through that. Especially not VET. Having spent 7 years in the Marine Corp I have a soft spot for any service or ex service person needing help. I do what I can.

during the tsunami, folks could easily donate 5$ via their cellphone by texting a word to a phone number.. maybe you can do something like that?
i like silent auctions, you can get free stuff from folks or companies that can write it off and just put it up for auction.

good luck

I don't really have any advice for you, noone (I've never been involved in putting together something like this), but I just wanted to commend you on such a wonderful, selfless act of kindness. What a generous thing to do for another person! The world would be a much better place if there were more people like you and your wife.
