I would like to figure out how to return one of these to original state.
I removed the 2nd bat and it messed up my time.
Now no boot.

Thanks fonger.
That is a great site.
What I wanted to ask was how to re-set the bios to original state (with-out password)
As it is now I cannot change any settings in the bios.
The clock got reset with the bios battery out.

not sure of the bios because it's generally on the motherboard... it can only detect stuff like you hard drive, there should be a password section or security section where you can check on/off password for it.
good luck.

Try using Dell

Googling d500 bios password brings back a lot of articles , unfortunately most want your money . Look for methods of shorting out the eprom that contains the password .

I called dell it was a waste of 1 hour.
No help unless ownership changed.(my cpu)
Prob gonna try the short method.

Can you prove ownership......meaning something in writing showing that you paid for the unit......( with such info, Dell would sell you a restore disc )

What OS is on the machine? there are plenty of programs that will restore to default passwords for many OS

It has been a learning experience. I tried another hd of same make and changed the bios time back to now.
I got it to start up easy. It seems that the original hd is corrupted.
Now I am copying drivers and stuff (from origonal) using umbuto 9 to a thumb drive and then copying to another cpu.

For some reason the hd was reduced to a 15 gig partition and that caused the first problem.

Format original hd and see what you get before throwing it out.

My bad communication skill..

I copied a lot of the files /Drivers/

The drive has been nuked and is now in format mode mode.

Thanks for your help though.
