Can you jailbreak a iPod touch

I just bought a 8GB iPod touch version 5.1.1 first question is does it have to be unlocked before jailbreaking and the second question is what would be the best software for jailbreaking it

5.1.1 can be jailbroken using Absinthe 2.0.4. unlocking isn't necessary on iPods
