Throughout his progression up the ranks, unbeaten super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez has shown steady signs that he's ready to take on some of the biggest names in the division.
After Saturday's one-sided drubbing of an overmatched Jason Escalera in the main event of HBO's "Boxing After Dark" card at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn., Rodriguez called out exactly which fighters are on his radar.
"We want Kelly Pavlik -- I'm ready," said Rodriguez, with promoter Lou DiBella close by whispering into his ear.

Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KOs), of Worcester, Mass., who rehydrated up to 186 pounds on fight night, also mentioned a willingness to move up to light heavyweight, if necessary, against the likes of former champion Jean Pascal.
"Pascal is a good friend, but this is business," Rodriguez said. "If he wants to get it on, I'm down as well."
It seems that all Rodriguez has been lacking thus far is a signature performance to announce his arrival as a true contender. While Saturday's eighth-round TKO of Escalera (13-1-1, 12 KOs) wasn't quite that considering the class of his opponent, Rodriguez still failed to disappoint in a one-sided dismantling.
In his fourth fight under the tutelage of trainer Ronnie Shields, Rodriguez boxed well from the start, using his reach advantage to work the body before coming back upstairs with the right hand. Escalera, who lost his mouthpiece repeatedly throughout the bout, was bleeding from the mouth and was nearly out against the ropes to end a dominant first round for Rodriguez.
Escalera, of Union City, N.J., endured more of the same throughout the next seven rounds, eventually succumbing in the eighth after a right hand from Rodriguez badly bloodied his ear, forcing referee Steve Smoger to jump in.
Whatever Rodriguez has lacked in terms of excitement or explosiveness in his recent run as a featured television fighter, he has made up for with consistency and a workmanlike effort inside the ring. While it's too early to tell just how high his ceiling can be, he has yet to take enough of a step backward to raise any cause for concern.
The kind of fight Rodriguez now desires against Pavlik -- a name fighter in need of a breakthrough performance of his own -- appears to be the perfect litmus test to gauge just how ready Rodriguez is for the next level.
"I feel like I'm ready," Rodriguez said. "Today I wanted to send a message and I believe I did. I'm ready now. My promoter and manager have done a great job moving me along and if they think I'm ready, I'm ready."
Darchinyan overcomes odds to stun Del Valle Veteran slugger Vic Darchinyan proved he had at least one more trick up his sleeve against previously unbeaten prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle.
A former flyweight and junior bantamweight titlist, Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KOs) moved up to 122 pounds with a bang by confusing and -- surprisingly -- outboxing the 25-year-old fighter en route to a 10-round unanimous decision (99-91 twice, 96-94).

Darchinyan, 36, utilized a smothering, unorthodox style to consistently land the harder shots, often with a stinging straight left hand. Del Valle (16-1, 11 KOs), of Puerto Rico, was never able to take control of the pace or rhythm of the fight and had trouble dealing with Darchinyan's herky-jerky style.
The bout featured pockets of exciting two-way action despite its one-sided ending on the scorecards. Del Valle never lost his will, even while being smothered throughout, and wobbled Darchinyan with a left hook in the ninth round.
The Aremenian-born Darchinyan, who resides in Australia, was able to close the show strong in an all-action final round. He went on to outland Del Valle overall by a margin of 227 to 132, according to CompuBox.
In the televised opener, Antonin Decarie (27-1, 8 KOs) of Montreal defeated Alex Perez (16-1, 9 KOs), of Newark, N.J., by sixth-round TKO in a welterweight bout. Decarie, who landed a series of thudding right hands throughout, connected on 99 of 150 power shots (66 percent).

Pavlik and Rodriguez would be an excellent fight! Would not go the distance.
Del Valle was totally confused by the Armenian's style... experience won out on this one.
Escalera had no business in there with Rod... he had been fighting nonames...
Rodriguez is an excellent boxer.
But at least we had some boxing. and October looks good.

Daddy Del Valle made a mistake putting his son in the ring with Darchinyan, he needed more experiece. Well, he's still young and can come back. You did see the left hook in the 9th, the kid has a future. Hey rud, some are missing here,I've seen them look and go, no posting. Wonder why? I'm big and black but I don't bite... jejeje

Brother rudee and All My Other Boxing Compadres, It's Good to be Back indeed!

I messed up and deleted my previous avvy, but I figured this one would settle well, just don't stare at it for too long since it has hypnotizing powers, hehe!

I agree with rudee on last Saturday's mismatch between Rodriguez & Escalera. It was impressive how Escalera held up to make it through the bombardment He endured on that first round, props on the cojones showmanship!
but it was evident that it was Rodriguez' bout from beginning to end and a no brainer who'd be the one with the arms up in the air at the end.

I'd really like to see Rodriguez fight Pavlik and feel some heavy bombs coming his way for a change, that is If Pavlik comes in in shape and stays away from any Happy Hour at the local bar.

Like I said before, this upcoming Saturday's bouts look more promising and I'm already savoring the outcome between Alvarado & Rios, a major Cojones Showdown!

Guess what? Darchinyan isn't done just yet. In fact, he looked pretty darn good in a fight in which he was supposedly the "opponent." The whole idea of the match was for the 25-year-old Del Valle to etch the name of a well-respected but smaller and past-his-prime former champion on his résumé. It's the tried and true way to build a young fighter. But Del Valle's co-promoters, Lou DiBella and Gary Shaw (who also promotes Darchinyan), drastically misjudged Darchinyan and overestimated Del Valle's readiness. Del Valle, of Puerto Rico, was anxious to step up again after a solid 10-round decision win against Christopher Martin in April. But there's a massive difference between Martin and Darchinyan, who will be a borderline Hall of Fame candidate when he's through. Darchinyan, 36, a native of Armenia who calls Australia home, is a former flyweight and unified junior bantamweight champion. He has been one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport for years because of his go-for-the-knockout mentality, and he has fought everybody.
But as a bantamweight, Darchinyan struggled. Struggled a lot, in fact, losing four times since 2009, to Abner Mares and in world title fights to Joseph Agbeko, Anselmo Moreno and Shinsuke Yamanaka. Darchinyan came into the fight 3-3 in his past six bouts and had lost two in a row. To make matters worse for Darchinyan, he was moving up yet another division, to 122 pounds. Del Valle had only recently come down to 122 after fighting most of his bouts as a featherweight. He had even fought at junior lightweight and lightweight. Clearly, he had the size advantage.
But Darchinyan couldn't have cared less. He fought the same guns-blazing style he always does and turned in a surprisingly dominant performance. His awkward southpaw style and all-out aggressiveness was too much for Del Valle to handle. Throughout the fight, Darchinyan landed the harder shots. By the later rounds, Del Valle had taken tremendous punishment but showed a great chin and the heart not to go down. There was good action throughout the fight, but it was mostly Darchinyan doing the damage. Del Valle's only prayer to win was to land something big late in the fight. He nearly did, rocking Darchinyan with a left hook in the ninth round. But the moment escaped and Darchinyan rolled to the final bell for the kind of victory that will resuscitate his career.
Suddenly, Darchinyan is in the conversation for another title fight at 122 pounds, perhaps against titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux or against unified titleholder Nonito Donaire, should Donaire beat Toshiaki Nishioka on Oct. 13. A Donaire-Darchinyan fight would be quite interesting, as it would be a rematch of the flyweight title fight that served as Donaire's coming-out party in 2007, when he handed the then-prime champion his first defeat by a huge fifth-round knockout. A rematch was talked about a lot in the years that followed, but it never happened.

Yes,,, the Armenian looked good.. i was surprised he chased the young PR all over the ring.. thought he would hide...
not noted for his chin... as Nonito and the rest have proven.
But the Armenian should pick his opponents carefully... the young PR hurt him badly in the 9th round..
hey,,, good to see ya posting rokko... got some good fights coming on in Oct.. plenty to banter about..
Wonder what happen to Aqua?
Still have not heard much on the Manny vs Marquez fight...
