Hey everyone!

Glad to be back!!

I was just wondering if the PVR function is as unpredictable for anyone as it is for me.

For example, if I want to pause live TV to go do something for a bit(to let the buffer build up) then come back so I can fast forward commercials or whatever, it usually glitches for me at some point and goes right to live tv and I've lost the recording.

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks for the help!

same here it only work till max 21minutes pause then start back from 0 or live tv so its mean we have to work with it until fix bin tried it with many external hard drive same

Again the question should also include which file version your using..

Post what firmware your using

Sorry that I haven't responded. I have been using my sat very much until recently.

Is the firmware what BIN I'm using? If so, it doesn't matter. This has been an issue for me since I've had the receiver. The pvr just doesn't work nicely. I can't pause and resume with it screwing up at some point. If I do record something to watch later, I can not fast forward commercials because it will eventually screw up either by getting all pixelated or the recording will jump ahead and rewinding gives me the same results.

I have also tried using different hard drives. I have used USB flash drives. I wish I would have known that the pvr wasn't very good when I bought this.

Does anyone use the pvr function on the dreamlink HD without any issues?

Thanks for any help!

Same problem, I have not been able to use the PVR. I have an ext. HD 500 gb and most of the time it shows that there is no USB connected. I want to find a HD receiver with a good PVR, any recommendation.
Thanks.

Same question.

Is anyone able to use their PVR with no issues? It's very buggy for me using a USB drive (32GB). I'm using 116v presently. Will probably move up to 119 soon.

1) Sometimes I can only replay the recorded show upto a certain point then it just freezes up. No matter what I do, I can't finish watching the show.
2) If I use the Fast-forward buttons it sometimes jumps ahead more than it should. Then the backward buttons doesn't work properly.
3) Pixelating and skipping forward.

Again its buggy for me. Anyone have a good experience?

I've never had a good experience with the pvr functions on this box. I've used bins 110 through to 116 and the pvr has always been crappy. The playback is unpredictable to the point of not being usable. Playback starts off ok usually for the first few minutes or so, and then I experience audio drop outs. When the audio comes backs it's usually out of sync with the video. Playing around with fast forward and rewind, I can get the audio back into sync, but it's not long until it screws up again. Sometimes I get a recording where fast forward and rewind are totally messed up, and fast forward actual results in going backwards in time.

I'm fairly certain that the recordings themselves are fine and the issue is only in the playback. After getting overly frustrated with trying to watch recordings on the DL, I decided to plug my usb drive into the computer and repackage the ts recordings as mkv's. The resulting video files play back fine on my computer. My ultimate goal was to stream these to my lg smartv, but unfortunately my lg doesn't play nice with dn's 1440x1080i broadcast format since it seems to ignore the SAR and DAR values of the video stream and determines aspect ratio by resolution only, so I end up with 4:3 playback instead of 16:9. The only way around this is reencoding the video which is a pain.

Anyway, back to the point, I'm assuming pvr functions must be working for some people, otherwise everyone would be complaining about this, right? From the comments of others having problems, it doesn't seem related to a specific bin version. Is there perhaps a hardware problem here with either some DL boxes or with the drives we're plugging into them? I'm using 250Gb laptop drive in a SATA drive enclosure with no external power. I'd be interested to try an externally powered drive to see if the results are any different. As I mentioned before, the recorded transport stream seems fine on the computer. Could there be errors in the transport stream the DL is not as forgiving about? I don't know.

Feel free to chime in as to what your setup is if you have the pvr functioning properly.

I have been using the PVR function with out much issue, although not up to the "Provider" box standard of pvr functionallty it does work.It seems that using a SELF- POWERED hard drive helps eliminate most of the problems you are having.Hope that ya' get it sorted out because most other hd fta boxes pvr functions are much worse that this one.Enjoy.

Thumb drives work fine on most STB PVR's..However, if using an external large capacity drive, it should be self powered, as the power requirements for external L/C drives exceed the rated power output of most STB's USB ports..

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'll give it a try with a self powered drive and perhaps a thumb drive as well, and let you know how it turns out.

Did you reformat the 32Gb stick? Mine is USB 3 compatible.

Which format(s) are acceptable for it to work with the HD DreamLink? EG. NTFS, exFAT

Doesn't "SELF- POWERED hard drive" mean that the hard drive will be getting its power from the USB port instead of hooking it up to an electrical outlet by way of a power supply adaptor?

Look for "Externally Powered" HDD

Fat32 is the standard

I don't have an externally powered hard drive yet, but I tried out a 16Gb thumb drive and playback appears to be working fine with it. I guess that would indicate powering a hard drive from the DL's usb port is not a good thing to do. I'll have to buy and externally powered drive enclosure to throw my notebook drive into and see if it works better then.

I am using 106 and 119. external powered hard drive, 500gb, fat 32. ! have problems fast forwarding and rewinding. When I attemp to ff or rw the pvr function, the DLHD just cuts out and I have to start playback at the beginng of the movie. If I start a movie and just let it play right through without any ff or rw, it plays properly.

Try running 1.14 . I have been running it for years . I have 1 TB drive powered . Works like a champ..

I seem to be doing fine on 1.19 now that I'm using a thumb drive. I'm still waiting to get an externally powered enclosure so I can try out my 250Gb drive.

Has anyone encountered this box heating up with usb plugged in for pvr functions. I am running the current firmware and have a red card with heat sink. Any solutions? Thank you.
