FBI WARNING.
i got a call from a kid with a computer problem that wanted to come by and talk to me to see what i think he should
do with this problem so i turned on his laptop and crap, now i dont work on computers but i know why he did not want to take it to a computer repair shop.
this i what was on the computer, your computer has been locked by the FBI for elegal downloades, you can unlock
this computer if you pay $200.00 usd, you can use your credit card to pay.
THIS IS A SCAM DO NOT PAY IT.
the computer is locked, it is a TROJAN, but it is easy to fix.
turn off the computer, then turn it on and press f8 three or four times to start in safe mode, use the key board down
arrow to safe mode with networking, if you dont have malwarebytes anti-malware google it, there is a free version
that works well, use it and run a full scan, this will take 1 to 3 hrs, when its done you will need to delete all that is in red.

now this was friday, it is now monday and i have had 6 calls today from some of his buds with the same problem,
just wanted to give a heads up on it.

their PCs weren't hacked but they do have some interesting malware installed. maybe they will realize now that free is not always good... hmm sound familiar? hehehe

anyway malwarebytes, hitmanPro or Ccleaner will probably all solve the problem but either all these kids disabled their antivirus, they are all running the same antivirus, or, this thing has found a way to bypass a bunch of different software. As for Microsoft Essentials, well I wouldn't rely on anything with the word Microsoft in the title seeing as how they can't even secure their own operating system.

the thing is they all go to the same college, so i would think this is where it came from.

I don’t think it came from the college. It’s a site they are all going to that they told each other about. Or it was in bedded in an email that they have received form a trusted friend Problem is they tell each other about any good site they find. And you don’t know what triggers it into action. It could be time or it could be some other action such as opening a program. Spy Boot probably won’t take care of it.

Maybe there is a post about it on the college website... but be careful as it could be infected too...

more than likely it is a drive by infection on a common website they go to. I know of one warez site that will drive Eset security suite into a frenzy just by visiting the page and it is trying to install some type of button while on the page. Worse yet is that the alarm keeps tripping even after shutting the browser down

IQ180, I know from experience what you are having to go through. I think it is very good of you to take the time at your expense to fix these problems for these collage kids. Again, it is very good of you to do this.

crazy malware. I get hit with the 2010 one a few times a year. Have to go in app data to remove it. Keep another hd with windows handy just to access the app data file
