Hi Djrm54, were you asked this question was for feed info only, I moved you to the propper section.
Now, the 39 inch dish can work for "C" band,(this is why I moved you to the mini bud section) but you need a combination "C"/"Ku" band LNB, using a good one will work for 70 to 90% of the "C" band satellites you may view from your area.
It all depends on how good of an LNB you get.

Also, you will need a conical scalar ring for the C-Band LNBF. Your location will make a difference and you will find some C-Band sats and/or TPs are stronger then others.

I have heard that the DMX741U doesn't work to good on small dishes, but wait till others with that LNB comment on it's performance.
As to how many channels?
No one can guess, but if you look through the satellite listings at lyingsat.com and use satbeams.com to see if that satellite is viewable at your location it could run into hundreds or more.

The 741 c/ku works well for c band but not up to my standards for ku. I would suggest the bsc 621. Try Galaxy 17 at 91w which has many strong tp, however you will need your bud to really seriously think of c band.

i have a 12 footer almost setup but i already have a 39 inch setup with ku channels but was curious as to cband on smaller dish.i have a extra lnb and conical scalar.if it is not worth my time i wont bother.i will finish my big dish setup.the ku stations are not really good stations on small dish.

Experiment away, that is why this section is for those wanting to experiment with the mini-BUD's, most small "C" band dishes are around 6 feet, some have tried a 39 inch dish with a "C"/"Ku" combo LNB on it, and have had good results, I have gone smaller then a 39 incher (a used wildblue internet dish, I call it my "sub-mini-BUD") but only picked up a few transponders on 97W.
So experiment away, we want to hear about your results.
The only thing that you might want to watch out for is overloading your motor, adding too much weight to the dish could cause problems, but if the motor is rated for a 39 to 48 inch dish then you would be OK to go.

We will all be waiting eagerly for your results, and a satellite/TP list of what you got with the mini BUD would be nice.
