Hello guys, I am planning on getting a motor, I seeing this motor that comes in a box half the size of a shoe box, SG some thing I believe, OK got lots of info in you tube and the video that helped me the most to understand this set up was a guy who made a video from 0 to then end of the installation, here is where I got lost, he mention to set the motor to 0º and the 0 in his location is sat 123west, how do I know wish sat is my 0º when I start setting the motor? Thanks in advance, true beginner here, never test a motor.

Sounds like your describing setting a motorized dish using the true south method ... Pain in the...

I use a rather unscientific method of setting up a motorized dish.

Set the dish up as per the instruction manual ( based on your location) , place the motor/dish assembly on the mast ( make sure that it is 100% plumb) - motor set at 0., pointed in a general south direction. Do not over tighten the retaining hardware . Go into antenna settings - select a circular satellite with a strong signal as close to your true south as possible ( 82 worked for me) , select Usals, enter your coordinates and tell usals to go the selected satellite . Motor will move to where it believes is the selected satellite .

All that remains to be done is to tweak the dish for max Q on the satellite in question. Tighten all the hardware. Thats it - if the mast is plumb usals will go to all satellites available from your location from this point on.

Here is another great setup video.

And go threw the dispointer.com site to find a true south satellite for your location, use this satellite as your reference satellite, you will have to go back to this satellite if problems arise. (mine was 119W, it was .3 degrees of of due south for me)

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavatory... damn song stuck in my head again. :)

Setting up a motor is fun, tee hee.

If you have a sat already set up you can use a level placed against the bottom of the dish and when plumb measure from the level to the top of the dish. Note where it's aimed, drive the motor to the same sat, elevate the new dish with the level and tape measure and aim at at same spot as the old dish.

shrug, I must be part Newf. :D
