A young man was killed Sunday morning in a crash on Highway 2 in Fall River.

"The driver was an 18-year-old from Fall River," said Cst. Tammy Lobb of Halifax RCMP. "There was a passenger who was a 17-year-old from Oakfield."

The accident occurred at 6:00 a.m. The Acura Integra veered off the road and into the ditch before hitting a tree.

Lobb said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene while the passenger was rushed to hospital in Halifax with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash has not been determined and police are in the early stages of the investigation.

Highway 2 between Coach Road and Lake Fletcher Drive was closed Sunday morning as traffic analysts were called in as part of the investigation.

Lobb said it's been a tragic weekend on roads in Nova Scotia with four deaths in less than 24 hours.
