My desktop was switch on when I plugged in the power cable to wall socket. Heard loud noice and smells burnt after few seconds. I can't put it on again. Do you think the power supply is damaged and can't be used anymore?? Need help please. Thanks

Yes your power supply is shot. Simply pull it out and bring it to your nearest computer parts store like Tiger Direct and ask for a compatible one.

I am with Yazz on this one. Usually there is very little smell from a dead power supply. You just didn't have a power supply pack it in. Somehow you managed to burn something by creating a dead short. If you are lucky then it is just the power supply, Take the whole computer to a repair place because it is quite possible the only thing you have left is the case itself. Computer circuits designed for 5 VDC really do not like 120VAC running through them
