Does any one know if the VS 9000 will run with rq-sssp client on other versions of Linux as noted in the title or will it only work with Ubuntu? If only Ubuntu will the latest version 12.10 support the client?
Secondly has anyone tried to make one of these receivers work with the Raspberry Pi? I have one on order, they look like a pretty cool device for little money.

it'll run with windows if linux is too complicated for you

I'm already using Ubuntu version 11.10 to run my VS 9000 once you get used to the difference running it is pretty simple.
My questions were if any has tried to use the newer version 12.10 with success and
two has any one tried the Raspberry Pi with Debian given of course the 9000 works with Debian with a Raspberry Pi?

The raspberry pi should work fine providing you get the rs232 adapter to work. There is a version of debian linux made for the pi so it will run the linux rq-sssp commands fine.
It would be interesting to see anyone who has tested this though. The pi looks like fun.

The rasberry pi just might work. A usb to serial addapter driver shouldn't be too hard to configure in linux.. As long as it's a fairly common model, Benken is a good one..
I wouldn't use the X86 client version which is used on a linux pc. I would use the rq-sssp-client.openwrt-bcm947xx binery since it's a broadcom chipset the rassberry pi is using..

Hey guys thanks for replying to this post it was a long time coming. :) I have a VS9000 as mentioned but, unfortunately what your suggesting is a bit over my head I'm afraid to say. I would have no trouble following a how to though if someone made something that worked. I'm just getting my feet wet with Linux on a PC which I have the 9000 running smoothly on. Not keen on having a PC next to the TV but, an RPI can easily tuck behind the TV and not be noticeable. I currently use the PI with XBMC and its been a blast to play with. Thanks again guys.
If this is something you end up playing with and figuring out, I would more than willing to try it out. :)

Hi Shark,
sorry haven't seen your post i haven't been around lately too ... well Yes it does run,
However, I did manage to run rq-sssp on my openwrt Kamikaze * version but then remembered that (again not sure but you may want to think about it before doing so)
There are alot of missmatch running regular rq-sssp for viewsat. You need a client specific to Viewsat ... like Wfemu , VS-SSSP
so i think your just running into a nother headaches, Having play with alot of router recently nothing is more straight foward than the regular Gargoyle that run on xfta.
I you realy want to make test on Unix i suggest you try with a more compatible box ... like Pansat or any other serial box, Don't get me wrong .. i have 3x Viewsat HD at home 2x 9000 and 1 max I i don'T think anyother box as the same pic quality.

Thanks for your input Blasta but, this post was just to see if any one had tried using the Raspberry Pi with FTA and particularly if it would be possible to run the rq-sssp client for the Viewsat 9000, where by your not having to have a PC next to your entertainment system. I have other FTA receivers I use currently to view content. I was given this 9000 and thought it would be really cool if the Pi could run RQ-SSSP.
