View Full Version : HD Recommendation for NFPS

I am currently using a Nanosat Premium with NFPS. My first year expires in March. I just acquired a 46" Sony HDTV and I am thinking of moving up in the FTA world to HD. I have legacy LNBs aimed at 110 and 119. I also have an old single dish that I can aim at 129. I'd like to get a receiver that works with NFPS and is supported on the forum. It would be nice to pick up a used one on Ebay from someone who has given up on FTA. Any receiver recommendation is appreciated. A 46" HDTV sure is a wonderful thing.
Thanks

Thanks if you can get a used one with all the attachments like the ihub and the hd mo dual (board) then my first choice would be the sonicview 8000 or the limesa hd

make sure you use a dealer that will warranty his rcvrs. Limesat is not in business anymore

It looks like the Viewsat 9000 is the most afordable. I saw a used one on fleabay for $150. The Limesat and the Sonicview are pushing $300. I didn't know Limesat was discontinued. SD does not look good on a 46" display. NFPS has been very reliable so I figure it's time to move up.

You will need the module installed to get HD. May or may not have it??

Won't you also need something to convert the serial port to an ethernet port with the Viewsat 9000? Otherwise you'll need a computer sitting beside the TV. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, you need Internet via Xfta router, or
rq-sssp-client on a computer hooked up to receiver.

Loved mine too till it went boot loop. I guess they all do eventually. Cheap parts. They are all built on the cheap in China. Except for the Dreamboxes, but they are REALLY expensive. But when my VS9k worked, it was buggy but it had the best picture. The scanning function was terrible and the HD tuner would magically disappear now and again but there is a workaround (go into menu and turn it off and on again). Other than that it was a good box while it lasted. i just purchased a Limesat HD Air. I hope it is comparable.

All these posts are helpful for someone moving up to HD. I'd like to get a unit that does not have a fan and does not have a Ethernet dongle hanging off the backside. An ATSC tuner is not needed either since the TV provides that. So I still don't know what to get. If anyone has any additional comments, I'm all ears. I have read that the Viewsat HD Max has no fan.
