Hi i am having trouble adding a Linksys Wrt54G to cable internet on a computer with Windows 7. I have used this router many times never an issue with XP but cannot get it to work now. Is there something different other than plugging it in and adjusting settings, I cannot get it to take a IP or even recognize the cable modem. Any help appreciated thanks.
Does this Linksys have factory software ? is it up to date ?
Try and run the setup program again....it should set up your network and detect your modem.....

Do this.
Go to your control panel, click on network and internet, select "Change adapter settings" then select the "Local area connection" then right click on it and select "property's" select the "Internet protocol version 4" then click on its property's, make sure it's set to "obtain an IP address automatically" do the same for the DNS server.
Then go back to your control panel, select the "Internet property's" then go to the "Local area network" make sure it set to "Automatically detect settings"
You may have to re-boot the PC when this is done.
If you still have problems then re-boot the router and go back to the "Internet property's" select "To setup an internet connection , click setup" follow the instructions.
That router does not use the IPV6 that windows 7 wants to use, setting the IPV4 to auto should override that.
XP uses IPV4, that is why it works with XP and not W7.

You can do the same thing by doing a factory reset.
