Thanks for the responses. I'm still having trouble with 119. If this is the wrong place to discuss this further, moderator, feel free to move this thread elsewhere.

Where I'm at:
I am still a bit new with the technology, so I had to look up what a TP is. Okay, I understand that a TP is a frequency and each one can carry several channels. So an auto scan should scan all the TPs for a given sat (in my case 119) and a manual scan is the action of going through each of these TPs and scanning one at a time.

Assuming what I have said is correct, here are some questions:
1) where does the STB get the TPs that go with each Sat?
2) how do you know you have the full set of TPs for each Sat?
3) Sometimes when I power off my STB (Dreamlink 103) from the remote, not the back, I get a message that says something like "changed TP information, saving", yet I didn't appear to do anything in my set up. Why does this message display.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Please start a new thread in the DL discussion area as the questions you pose will be better answered.

Your understanding is correct

1. Each sat carries all the information as to what TP's that it has available. I dont know how the blind scan works which is how the DL carries out the search which contains additional TP's information that are not open.
2. Well, you can verify it on Lyngsat but I use the latest channel list available from "timster".
3. Yes mine does the same with the latest bins.

Perhaps someone else with a more in depth knowledge of the ins and outs of the best way to scan sats. The best way that I know if I'm having any missing channels is to go to the manual scan menu, chose a tp with strong signal, delete every other TP leaving only that one TP and then go to the auto scan menu and scan the satellite from that one tp. It will add all the TP that are available on the sat without any of the additional tp's that the blind scan adds.

You get that message because the provider changed which TP a certain channel was on. With Auto TP Update, the box actually follows that move but stores the new information in RAM. It has to save that information before it shuts down or it will be lost.
