View Full Version : Boxing's 4 Most Feared Fighters!! (according to this writer)

The label "most feared fighter" is much too simplistic when talking about the tough-as-nails world of main stage professional prizefighting. Regardless of what gets tossed around on boxing message boards and throughout social media, "fear" is not in the vocabulary of men who spend the vast majority of their time on Earth engaged in a potentially life-threatening profession.

More often than not, what's perceived as fear is merely a business decision. Some fighters offer up too much risk for too little reward. In a bout where a loss is a distinct possibility, the "bigger," more economically viable fighter would like more of a monetary guarantee and/or greater exposure for the risk involved. It's a business decision that, despite some fans' macho fantasies, every top fighter routinely makes.

Here's a look at four fighters who have earned the status of "avoided fighter" due to their tremendous ring ability and the relatively small financial return they can bring to potential main stage foes:

Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KOs)

Strong, aggressive, and determined, Argentina's heavy-handed battler showed on Saturday via brutal first round knockout of Mike Dallas Jr. why most of the top junior welterweights in the world would rather not acknowledge his existence. Matthysse's two losses were controversial split decision losses to division elite (Devon Alexander, Zab Judah), but he has steamrolled just about every other opponent put in his path. Saturday's win puts him in line for the winner of the Danny Garcia-Zab Judah clash in February, but rumors have already emerged that Garcia may pull out of the Judah fight and risk losing his belts rather than find himself locked into a bout with Matthysse.

Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KOs)

While it's true that Kazakhstan's middleweight battler has yet to beat an elite-level 160 lb. contender, he certainly looks like the real deal. Golovkin holds the paper WBA middleweight title, but has not been able to leverage that belt into any sort of meaningful bout with a name opponent. Team Golovkin hopes that his migration to the United States and recent status as media darling will lead to some main stage bouts. The middleweight top dogs are likely hoping that Golovkin's defensive liabilities eliminate him from contention before the public demand forces them into a tough battle with the offense-minded fighter.

Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KOs)

It's strange to see a two-belt world titlist on a list of most avoided fighters, but this is precisely where the Olympic gold medalist and WBC/WBA champion finds himself at the moment. Still recovering from shoulder surgery, Ward is having the toughest time finding a suitable opponent for his ring return. Even with two world belts and guaranteed premium cable exposure it has been hard to find big ticket opponents for his post-surgery ring return. Part of the problem is that Ward has beaten most everyone worth beating in the super middleweight division. Former opponents, Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch apparently want nothing to do with him and most of the other challengers are well below his skill level. This means that, for the time being, the Oakland native will have to settle for second tier opposition or imports from other weight classes.

Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KOs)

"King" Carlos Molina is the type of fighter every big shot superstar hates to see as an opponent. He is a tough, hard-working spoiler who knows how to drag an opponent into an ugly fight that will either result in a loss or a career-stalling ring performance. Molina holds upset wins over Kermit Cintron and Danny Perez and met with defeat in controversial screw jobs against James Kirkland and Erislandy Lara. The native of Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico is set to face another spoiler in former champ, Cory Spinks on February 1 in an IBF junior middleweight world title eliminator.

Thats a pretty good top 4 list up there... glad he left out Floyd... he don't belong on any list.
Lets do Canelo vs Golovkin! make it Canelo's once a year fight...
Might be good for Canelo, Golovkin walks right in....
Canelo walks around at higher weight than that.

Garcia will top Maidana and Matthysse, they need to put the money there and the young Rican will fight them any day ,anywhere.

Garcia will kill Maidana... Maidana a trial horse now...
Matthysse,,, hmmm, would be a toughie.
If the gaucho hit Danny like Khan did,,, would be tough.
Danny would have to box... not get hit.
Would be one hell of a fight. But according to the above, Garcia wants to leave
the division...
This by far is not the same gaucho that Judah split decisioned a long time ago.
Not saying Danny would lose, I think the fight would be a tossup.
The gaucho called Danny out on national tv... its Danny's call.. que no?

Matthysse hasn't the boxing skills that Khan has, although Lucas hits hard, you don't know how much harder than Amir does he hit.
The kid has a chin, one thing I know is that Lucas has never been hit the way Danny will. So it will be a gamble, both ways. Lucas chin will be tested, can he take a punch? If Danny move up, he would have to fight in the welterweight division. Lucas can also go up after him, maybe that's what Danny wants. One thing is for sure, Bradly's belt will be in jeopardy.

Here is what I found.........

From boxing scene.com.

By Luis Sandoval
While the world will have to wait 3 more months to see Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah which was postponed due to a rib injury suffered by Garcia in training camp, one fight they can’t wait to see is Garcia take on Argentine Lucas Matthysse.
Matthysse had a spectacular first round knockout this past Saturday over Mike Dallas and he continues to prove to be one of the best and dangerous fighters in the 140 pound division. He also holds the interim WBC Junior Welterweight title and a fight between him and Danny Garcia has been mandated to take place this year by the WBC as Garcia holds the full championship.
Some boxing fans have already began saying that Garcia wants no part of Matthysse and are clamoring for the fight to take place should Garcia defeat Judah April 27th. Garcia was on the most recent edition of BoxingScene’s official radio show - "The Boxing Lab" - and was asked what his thoughts were on people thinking he is ducking Matthysse and if he’d be willing to take that fight.
“I've never ducked anybody. I never got a phone call saying 'Hey, you're fighting Lucas Matthysse' and I said no. I've never got a phone call saying to fight Lucas Matthysse. If the phone rings and they say Lucas Matthysse is your next fight then we’ll fight. I've never ducked nobody” said the Philadelphia native.
Garcia watched the destruction of Dallas at the hands of Matthysse and was asked what his thoughts were on his performance. While Danny shared his thoughts on the fight, he also mentioned an interesting point regarding people’s opinions of his and Matthysse’s accomplishments.
“I mean he did what he had to do. I thought Mike Dallas was going to do a little bit better but it’s a different level when you're in there and I guess he wasn’t able to adapt. But it's crazy because like I tell people; he knocked Mike Dallas out and people are looking at him like he's the greatest thing in the world in the 140 pound division that ever happened. But I knocked Amir Khan out who was the best 140 pounder in the division and they say I'm lucky. I don't get it, like, these people say I ducked that [other] dude [Ajose Olusegun] and then Matthysse knocks him out and then they say he wasn't ready for that. I'm like you got to make your mind up. I don't duck nobody. So whoever it is they put in front of me, my job is to win” Garcia would tell The Boxing Lab.
Garcia is currently recovering from his injury and says he will be more than ready to go April 27th and defend his title.

I thought that Judah was injured, things are clear now. rudee
