Brock Lesnar returned to the WWE on Monday Night Raw and proceeded to deliver his finisher on Vince McMahon. He was protecting the job of his longtime manager Paul Heyman, and inflicted some serious storyline damage.
WWE.com reports McMahon, who had taken on a more prominent role as the company begins building toward WrestleMania, suffered a broken pelvis after receiving the an F-5. It came just as the chairman was about to fire Heyman.
First and foremost, it's unlikely that McMahon suffered any legitimate injuries. He sold the move well for somebody who rarely steps foot in the ring on television aside from cutting the occasion promo, but that's why the fans love him.
Having Lesnar attack McMahon was just a way to get the ball rolling as the company gets prepared for the year's biggest show. Give credit to the 67-year-old wrestling lifer for being in good enough shape to still take part in these type of moments.
More importantly for WWE fans, an amazing heel stable is finally beginning to take shape under the guidance of Heyman. While it's not a surprising development, that doesn't make it any less intriguing.
He was already working with CM Punk, but on Raw it was revealed–although he used an only-in-wrestling excuse about the video footage not being of him–that he was also pulling the strings with The Shield and Brad Maddox.
Add is Lesnar and it's one of the more formidable stables the company has seen in a long time. It should provide plenty of entertainment in the coming months.
Perhaps the best part of the entire situation is the idea that attacking the head of the company can somehow save somebody's job. It allows Lesnar to come off looking like a ruthless monster, and allows Heyman to wiggle out of another jam.
All told, the Road to WrestleMania is off to a tremendous start. No word on when McMahon will return from his "devastating" injury.
