On March 25, 2012, the Nashville Predators came to the United Center for a divisional matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. At the time, the Blackhawks were enjoying a 6-0-1 run as the 2011-12 NHL season wound down. The Predators had lost two of their previous three games, but raced out to a 4-0 lead that chased Chicago starting goaltender Corey Crawford.
The Predators would go on to win 6-1. That was the last time the Blackhawks lost a regular-season game in regulation or overtime.
They finished the season with a 3-0-3 run before their historic 16-0-3 start to this season. With their recent unprecedented surge, the Blackhawks have now gone 25 consecutive regular-season games without a loss in regulation or overtime, dating back to last season.
The only team in recent history to have enjoyed anything similar to this Chicago run is the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers, who set a new record for North American professional sports when they went 35 games without a loss, going 25-0-10. Overtime had not yet been implemented at that point, and a game that was even after 60 minutes ended in a tie.
Since the Blackhawks have lost via the shootout over their 19-0-6 run, they can't challenge the Flyers' record unbeaten streak. But both teams will be remembered for their respective historic runs.
