HTML or Ruby?

I have been learning HTML for a little while ( not long ) , and I seem to be understanding it quite well, but a good friend suggested that I go with Ruby instead, I checked it out and does seem different than what I am currently learning ....

should I stick with HTML , or jump right over to Ruby ?
I really don't have a "reason" in mind just yet.....ie... don't know if I want to build web sites, or just have the knowledge...
It would be cool to build a web site from scratch .... :yes:
