Timothy Bradley trying to move past Pacman saga and death threats that accompanied it5 hours ago/Yahoo Sports

Timothy Bradley probably learned more about life in the three weeks following his June 9 victory over Manny Pacquiao than he had in the previous 28 years combined.
Every day, it seemed, something new, something bizarre occurred. It culminated, sadly, with a series of death threats, via the mail and the telephone. http://l1.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/tUgrddH7G8.yZlcfM.K9hw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/es_US/News/notifight.com/BradleyTimMediaDayTR300NF1.JPGTim Bradley trains before a fight. That series of events turned what should have been an epic win and a celebratory summer into a nine-month nightmare.
The Bradley prior to June 9 was the epitome of what a father would want his daughter marrying: bright, loyal, patient, friendly, understanding and successful.
"I am the nicest guy you will ever meet on the street, ever," said Bradley, who ran a youth football league in his hometown.
Bradley did everything correctly in the days and weeks leading up to the heavily hyped bout with Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao was the star going into that fight and, despite the outcome, he was the star when it ended.

Now, nine months after that split decision victory, Bradley fights for the first time.

Rather than fighting Pacquiao, he'll fight Pacquiao's sparring partner, the virtually unknown Ruslan Provodnikov, on Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., for the WBO welterweight title in a bout televised by HBO.
He's been in virtual seclusion since beating Pacquiao, no longer so eager to engage with media that has beaten him up because two people he does not know thought he'd won.
Bradley declined all manner of interview requests following what should have been the biggest win of his life. He wanted nothing to do, it seemed, with boxing.
Upon reflection, it's hard to blame him.
First, Bob Arum, his promoter, went apoplectic following the announcement of the decision. Arum wasn't alone. The overwhelming majority of those who saw the fight felt Pacquiao had won it, and handily.
The public claimed the outcome was rigged, though there were no unusual betting patterns and a Bradley win benefited few other than Bradley.http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/lLzkrCNdxE8ngpH6PJlwCw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_US/Sports/AP_Boxing/201303081818659383330-p2.jpgRuslan Provodnikov works out with trainer Freddie Roach. It was no secret to anyone who follows boxing that Arum would have preferred a Pacquiao win. Pacquiao was the cash cow, after all, and a Pacquiao win would have been far better for Arum's business.
Arum called for an investigation by the Nevada attorney general's office, a tactic made in an attempt to quell talk of a fix. It didn't make it easy, though, for Bradley to hear his promoter so angry railing at the injustice perpetrated upon Pacquiao and seemingly forgetting about his feelings.
Bradley then had to bear the indignity of the WBO, whose belt he had won, convening a panel of five judges to review the outcome. The determination of those judges was that the three who sat ringside had scored it wrong.
"There is a difference when you view it live and when you view it on TV," Bradley said. "Completely different."

Enduring that firestorm was the easy part.
A lunatic fringe, though, took it further than just moaning about the outcome.
Bradley knew the threats were unlikely to be carried out, and didn't report them. With a wife and young children at home, however, he couldn't be totally complacent. Anyone zany enough to threaten to kill an athlete over the result of a boxing match might be loony enough to actually do it. http://l1.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/9XaADE6u4JIMLIOUL79uaw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/Sports/ap/201206100051031003411-p2.jpegTimothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao return their corners at the end of their fight. (AP)
"I didn't get any credit after the Pacquiao fight whatsoever," Bradley said. "People talk about me, my style, that I'm boring. Some people talk about my wife, my kids. People sent me death threats after the fight because I won undeservingly. [They said] I should have given the belt back. A lot of different things went on. I can talk all day about things that people said about me. But it doesn't matter [because] none of these people are going to get in the ring with me.
"People can say whatever they want – it is a free country – so I am going to say whatever I want, when I want to say it and how I want to say it. Those people don't know me at all. If you get to know me, if you know what I go through, how I train and you still talk crap about me, then you have the problem. No one knows what I go through to prepare for my fights. People need to sell papers I guess."
Now, Bradley needs to sell tickets for his fight, so he's once again talking to the media.
He's a thoughtful, eloquent young man, and it would have been wise had he spoken at length in the days following the Pacquiao fight and not just now, when he has another fight looming.
But the hysteria following the bout scarred him in a way that no punch has been able to do.
No matter who you felt won the fight, Bradley deserved far, far better than he's gotten in its aftermath.

I feel for Bradley as he is a good fighter and a great person... Plus it wasnt his fault they gave him the fight.....If someone should be threatened should be the judges that scored that fight........

Arum practically abandoned this boxer after that event in Vegas. Everyone saw what happened to the photographer after the JMM KO in Vegas. Now, if both of this fights would have taken place in Manila, what would have happened there?

I really don't think it was that much of a one sided decision..After many replays it was closer than most might think...Jmo..Bradley took the beating after the fight...Letz hope he steps in the ring with confidence Saturday night and beats Provodnikov...If he dosen't he faces the possibilty of taking an even worse beating by boxing fans, certain promoters and media...Jmo..

Bradley is a good fighter. He clearly lost to Pac though.
To get back in the fans good graces he will have to become a bit more aggressive.
Take chances. People want to see a "Blake Griffin dunk" in a fighter!

By total fluke I ended up chatting quite a bit on facebook with Bradley for a couple months after the fight. He even had me help him admin his page when he was getting bombarded with ignorant remarks. He really is a remarkable guy to chat with. He is all about his wife and his family and his community. I simply was trying to fend off the useless remarks and he pm'd me to thank me and we kept in touch every since.

I agree that pac may have had the upper hand in that fight but it wasn't as one sided as the announcers had you believe. I felt genuinely bad for the guy the months following this fight. The only time he as able to really celebrate and enjoy the win was at a small community in his hometown of Cathedral City when they threw a homecoming for him.

It's just sad when a kid devotes his life to something and has it scared by politics and will have a tough time shaking it off. I hope this next fight starts a road to healing his reputation and he ends up with a notable career.

No doubt Bradley is a good fighter and a good person. He is a local guy here where I live.
No one has doubted his ability nor character.
However, styles dictate a boxers popularity. His style is not conducive to an exciting boxing match.
The fight with Manny might not have been as lopsided as people think, but in reality he still lost.
Best of luck to him Saturday. Lets see if he can redeem himself in people's eyes.
As Buffer would probably say to Tim.... "Lets get it on!"

Lets see if he can redeem himself in people's eyes.

When you're a victim of circumstances, you shouldn't have to redeem yourself to no one. He is an undefeated boxer and a world champion. He may not be exciting to some but he works hard for his family. I think we are misjudging a good person here, if Manny had no doubts about his loss why didn't he fight him again. In stead he decided to fight someone who put him to sleep. I feel that result had much to do with his actions against Brad. Cause and effect. Bradley will defend his title on Saturday and will go on as champion.

You don't think Bradley really beat Manny, do you Blackie? Not talking about the score cards, in YOUR
personal opinion. Because if you did,, you would be in a very small minority.
Every time I read this forum on this topic, Manny won by less and less. I think most writers and
the tv analysts and myself, gave Bradley about 3 rounds max in the fight.

And by redeeming himself I meant his style of boxing. Defensive boxing. Of course he is undefeated.
Maybe my choice of words was poor.
He is just not very attractive for promoters to put out there because of his style.
Of course he works hard for his family. So do a lot of people. But I think we are missing
the point here. The point being, he would be much more in demand if he became a little
more aggressive. He has the tools to do so, but chooses to box and move.
Lets just see how he does in the future. Maybe he and Marquez can get together. That would be
a good match up.
Anyway,, good sharing opinions withya, as always.

Of course, is always a pleasure to share with you, amigo. You're the best and I learn from you, all the time. Maybe the word redeem was misunderstood, now we're clear on that. You are correct about your assumption, he needs to be aggressive and go toe to toe with the best in his division. Re vindicate himself is the right word.........

I feel you rokko, Khan went out and took on Madiana and almost went down. Then Garcia ended his run for greatness. So he's not so good. Lamont Peterson will eventually come, at this moment I think he made a good choice. He needs some ringside time to take on someone better in the near future. Yes he needs to proof himself with better boxers, even Garcia and Lucas.

Well put Blackie. Would love him to go against Garcia. Bottom line is,,, he is the champ now.
Lets get the show on the road! I like Bradley... as I said, he is a local product.
I think he will put on a good show next time around.
Got some excellent fighters in and around that weight class. Should see some great fights.
Keep up the good posts fellows! Enjoy them. All we need now is a cold cerveza!
