If you crossed one wire then no it won't work. For the price of a new one I would just go buy one.

Splice away - it should work just fine the individual wires are colour coded after all .

You only have one of thoise buggers ? I must have like a dozen of them - they come with just about any piece of electronic equipment one buys today , or a $1 purchase at the dollar store :)

I wouldn't waste my (your in this case ) money . I'd just splice the cable - cat5 is as crude as it gets.

Don't know why you are limited to staples.
Future shop, Best Buy, tiger direct, any computer store. Staples would be more expensive.

Also Ebay ! About $5 for 50 feet
Just hope your electronics didn't get damaged when the cable was chewed apart.
