How to make a channel list?

Can anyone tell me how to make a channel list so that when I put a new file on or factory default etc. and then I scan I dont get all the useless channels. In other words, is there a way to keep the channels I have on my receiver, then say do a factory default, then load the channel list file so the other non active channels will be automatically deleted?
