Your screen is shot . I have the same problem with an asus eee-pc , 3 inches ( on the right hand side ) are none responsive. You can try opening up the laptop and verifying that the ribbon cable that goes to the monitor is well seated.

So you people don't think I got a virus or something. I'm only saying this cause that the computer line thingy and the damn thing s shutting down on a scan , started at the same time. When I bring it into staples and they look at it are they going to write it off. I brought the best warrenty I could at the time of purchace. I just don't want someone telling me I got a virus and that ain't covered.

sounds more like you have both a wonky screen and some type of malware. forget that microsoft essentials, that is about as effective as the windows operating system itself. Get a free version of malwarebytes or ccleaner and run that. It should solve half your problem anyway. Then let the puter store solve the other half

if you see the line during the Toshiba boot logo and in the windows boot splash screen it would most likely be hardware related.

Just google them - I doubt that they will make the line disappear.

Got the programs they didn't help. The line is there all the time. I don't know how to upload a picture. Do you think
staples will put in new screen or just give me new laptop?

Guess it all depends on your warranty - call them and ask if it's covered . Replacement or repair will be their decision .
Read the fine print in the warranty - look for depreciation clauses.
Screens are not that expensive and relatively easy to change - look on ebay .

Agree with Stan. Screens are cheap. Just done one on my macbook pro. Cost was 996.00 plus tax at the genius bar. Got one off ebay for 65.00 and installed. If I can do it with my eyes anyone can. Worked perfect
