I have a viewsat ultra vs2000 and I would like to use it again... I have some questions:

is it currently working?
does it work with bev?
can i use a linux based router (dd-wrt or openwrt) instead of a pc?
which firmware must be flashed on the vs2000?

I know the truth is out there, but I've been having problems putting it all together...

you can use a X fta router instead of a computer, and yes it will work with bev if you get a P$ that supports bev

So an XFTA router is something you buy? I couldn't use an existing router like a DIR-615 to do it?

no you have to buy the special xfta router.

does your dir-615 have a serial port?...lan/wan ports only i'm sure.

I think you can add a serial port to the DIR-615... still probably easier to use an old pc. I have a netwbook with a cracked screen that should work.
