Does anyone know how to set up the Dreamlink HD to use a SOCKS5 proxy connection running on another computer?

No matter what you need to be connected to modem or router...Not sure how the prox on pc will help you that way...Jmo...

If you have a router that is Tomato or DD-WRT capable, you can use a VPN and mask your IP address that way. A proxy is better than having no protection at all, but it isn't as good as a VPN.

If you can go that route, that would be my advice

This is what I ended up doing. Works great.
