I'm sure there are better ones than the one I use (asus RT-N16) but I have tried a couple of the lynksis cysco with dd-wrt and also tried the net gear. The asus has lots of horsepower which I wanted and also you can install tomato if you decide to go with a vpn which I did. I have 3 computers wireless, and voip phone, along with the tv and in my opinion works good. I paid around 100 but I see there are different spots on the web you can get one now for considerably less. I've had mine for better than a year, so there may be upgrades to this particular model. good luck

I have two DIR-829 the range is not bad covers the upstairs. I'm using the second one in the basement as a AP because of the tiles on the floor. DDWRT is easy to install. Boot the router into recovery mode and upload a file. Overall it is a nice dual band router. I have recommended it to all my friends.

Buffalo Networks makes very good routers, and come with DD-WRT preinstalled. They're known to have the best wifi range as well.

any decent model with DDWRT instaled.. i use asus wl520.. with DWRT you can boost up the wifi power which really helps for range.

Most people don't use their router to their potential anyway, a cheap router is more than sufficient for the common house hold...
If your interested in doing anything, above and beyond what a basic router does you will know what your looking for.

Agreed.

Fred0242: IKS hardly uses any bandwidth at all, even the cheapest off-brand consumer grade router would have no issues with it. What else are you planning on doing that might require a router upgrade?
