View Full Version : A Dumb Mistake That Probably Trashed My Dreamlink

Do you know how when you first turn on the Dreamlink from the back, and if you have a usb hard drive attached, by default, the dreamlink will have a window with some of your files saved to your hard drive on the screeN?

Well one of those files on my hard drive was a factory default file.

Which happend to be highligted already.

I picked up the remote and by purely accident I selected the factory default file. An purely on instinct, I powered off the unit from the back (What a dummy) as quickly as I could because I was hoping that the file would not take.

As it was powering off, looking me right in the face was my tv and right before eyes read, DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR RECEIVER!!!!!!

Now my Dreamlink won't show a picture.

On the front when the box is powered up a green light on the right flashes then both a green and red light flashes at the same time. then back to green light.

is there anyone who can help me revivie my favorite fta box ever?

connect the receiver to your computer with a null cable and use the loader to put 106 onto the receiver

Just load the 119 file, set your sat, settings and scan, no need to set the server factory file won't erase it

I have the null modem cable connected. When I fire up Dreamlink Downloader app. I select the appropriate com port. it's connected it to receiver. I hit connect and it just stays froozen on connect your receiver and turn it on......nothing happens.......it seems like I am supposed to have a .pro file for software.

Anyone who had successusing the loader can chime in?

Download the d/l loader .Dreamlink loader. And the latest fac file. From the file section.A null modem cable is necassary.

With the receiver OFF at the back switch, connect receiver to computer with the null modem cable.Open the loader on your pc and select com1.I'm not sure if the auto connect feature works haven't tried it.At the bottom of the loader select all file. Now press browse and select the file and press open. The file should appear. Now click on the file and press open. Now press connect and then turn the reciever on.DO NOT INTERRUPT THE DOWNLOAD PROCESS.
When file loading is completed receiver should re-boot.Turn off the box disconnect cables.

Thanks Kid,

Did exactly that step by step. I select the 106 file, under the software tab on loader hit connect, then power receiver and no response at all. Tried many different variations as well. Power receiver first then try and load. Tried different cables as well. Any other ideas.

I got the cable from rat shack. It is a female to female rs 232 cable. I am using a older xp machine that has serial ports. I'll take the hd card out and give it a shot. I did try the power cycling fix as well. but i'll look it over and try it aGAIN. sometimes no matter how much you test something, u miss a small detail and then the next day u r able to fix it in minutes

Because it's rs232 doesn't make it null/modem.Wrong cable.

Really???? I didn't know that. I know I have one somewhere in here. They usedta always come with the old school boxes. Worse case, I'll have to pick up one from fleabay. Do you think the usb to serials are better? Or serial to serial?

232 to 232 on a puter with XP & 232 ports will be best.USB to 232 is just another issue to deal with.

DArn it, keep digging up Db 25 to Db 9 cables....useful for avr flashing but I guess not so useful for loading fta boxes.

Dam bro I did the same dumb mistake. I send back to where I got it and the first thing I notice when I got it back was it had 105 factory file on it. So it looks like they used 105 file to fix but how they did it I'm not sure the tech would not tell me LOL. I bet they used a null cable and loaded 105 file. P.S It can be fixed!!

it's great to know that it can be fixed. I am getting my null modem in Friday. So i am going to give it a shot then. I sent at email to the guy I got it from and didn't hear one word back from him. Guess it pays to get it from authorized dealers even if it costs more.
