Randy Orton may be looking at a resurgence in his WWE career and a push back into the spotlight right around the corner.
At one point in time, Orton was the hottest thing in WWE. He was at least on par with John Cena as the top babyface and, in many aspects, even surpassed the golden company-boy.
However, that was a long time ago. Since then, Orton has floundered in the upper-midcard without truly touching the main event like before.
Some speculation in the past indicated that this is a result of WWE wanting to play it safe due to Orton's injuries and not run the risk of giving him a championship just for him to leave the roster hurt soon after.
Other rumors suggest that it may be more of a response to Orton's previous Wellness Policy suspensions.
One way or another, the fact remains that Orton hasn't held a world title since the middle of 2011 after dropping it to Mark Henry.
Orton's career took a different route, placing him more as a stepping stone and filler-feud for upper-midcarders as opposed to featuring Orton himself.
Despite all this, Orton still receives consistent, loud pops from the audience. He remains one of its most popular superstars and is missed when he is gone.
Many fans are clamoring for a heel turn to rejuvenate his career, but as evidenced by the reaction he received on this week's Monday Night Raw, that may not be necessary.
Orton still has much he can give as a babyface, particularly in the World Heavyweight Championship scene. Once Dolph Ziggler is done with his feud against Alberto Del Rio, he will need a new challenger and Orton could fill that spot better than anyone.
The quality of his matches are not decreasing, nor is his popularity, so WWE should strike while the iron is still hot rather than let the Orton-bubble deflate. There aren't many years left to capitalize on this, so why waste them?
There is a simple equation: Orton's in-ring talent plus his continued support of the WWE Universe plus a lack of stars to fill main event spots results in giving Orton a push back into the main event as soon as possible.
Judging by the way he's been booked lately, there is indeed a good chance that WWE is going this route.
The once brighter-than-the-sun future of Orton suffered from a dimmer switch, but it's time now to turn the lights back on and burn in them. At least, that is what the voices in my head are telling me.
