It is the address of the server that you are connecting to . You can either enter the ip or dns ( in the same place - after selecting which one you will be entering).

under installations/network/net application just above where the IP is... it says input type... at the right side there are 2 small arrows <> click on this & it will change the option from IP to Domain... underneath where the IP used to be... enter the DNS... The beauty of it is the IP is still there so if you want to change back just click on the arrows <> again...

FYI.

DNS is computer lingo for "Domain Name Server", these servers (and there are many out there) take the http text (like http://www.satfix.net) and translate it to an IP address.

The internet works on number address, and all sites in it have an IP address, in the very near future they will run out of the 000.000.000.001 to 256.256.256.254 addresses for web sites, because out of 4 billion possible combinations not all number combinations are used for the web, there are private blocks set aside, so they are running out of number combinations and have to go to a different type of IP addressing.

With the advent of 64 bit PC's (and Mac's) they have come up with IPv6, this would give you trillions of possible combinations, an IPv6 address would look like this, 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf, it is made up of the numbers 0 to 9 and the letters A to F, this forms a Hexadecimal number package.

However once the start useing this format most computers capable of running IPv4 only will be left in the dust and you wont be able to get to some of the new sites.

Computer running Windows Vista and above have the IPv6 capability, I dont know about other OS.

Ohh ohh, it looks like the coffee has taken over again.......Sorry..........My fault.
