how do you install the ls500 board and is it necessary to install it thanks

If you want HD then yes it is necessary.
Pop the cover off the receiver and find the sd board. If looking from the front of the unit it is on the right. Gently pull up on it to remove it then gently put the 500 in it's place. Make sure the receiver has no connections to it and it is turned off and unplugged before doing this.
