Good Morning,
I have to move my dish for Anik f3 5ft from where it is right now, instead of running a brand new wire, can i just make an extension to the current RG6 cable?
Will i lose signal strenght?
Thanks
henzio

Its not a good idea because you will have a point of resistance were you put the coax coupling ! Coax is cheap so why not just make a clean new run,But to answer your question yes it will work.

Thank You for your reply,
Yes i would prefer to make a new run, but the cable is installed in a place so hard to reach!

You can splice it, but with it being outside water ingress is a bigger problem than signal loss. I would cut off the existing end of the cable and reterminate it with a good quality compression connector, and also terminate both ends of the extension with the same compression connectors. Join the two pieces of cable with a barrel connector, and wrap the whole thing with 3M Scotch 23 splicing tape or an equivalent. That tape fuses to itself and will do a good job of keeping water out, and will never come unstuck from the cable. Good electrical tape will also work, but keep in mind that it isn't self fusing and will eventually come loose with exposure to rain and the sun.

Unless your signal quality is already marginal, you shouldn't notice a difference if you terminate the cables correctly and seal the splice to prevent water ingress. Eventually, you may get water in that cable and have to replace it, but properly spliced it should last a few years.
