After flashing firmware as per dd-wrt.com on my linksys wrt400n seem like everything when well till i flashed dd.wr.goo. bin . After numerous power cycles and 30/30/30 resets, I cannot get back into dd-wrt user panel to configure the server settings, I tried as per tutorial 192.168.0.1 and also 192.168.2.1 nothing...I,m stuck with a dead router not sure what to do !! Kinda regretting messing with things now! Any ideas?:grr:

the default address for a dd-wrt flash is 192.168.1.1
try setting your pc's address to static, and use something like 192.168.1.11
after any failed attempt, it may help to restart your browser
if you get it going, go here and follow the instructions to revert back to a linksys bin;
http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT400N
Now, if you followed the above link, you will see your router has an atheros chipset.......therefore it will not work with the goo2 bin....goo2 was for the wrt54g bin; it is also reported to be working with the wrt54gs and wrt54g2, and wrt54gs2.....and these routers have the broadcom chipset
There is a lesson to be learned here.......you were told in the tutorial it would be best if you bought 1 of the above routers....you were also told they can be bought on ebay for $10 or so. The creator of this bin didn't pick this router by accident.....the intent was to enable those with minimal skills to buy a really cheap router and load a bin that is almost a plug-n-play setup......
And btw, it is also recommended that you buy this cheap router so that you can't brick your existing router........no one wants to make an emergency trip to Best Buy to get a $60 router because the wife and kids have no internet!!!!
And look at this, the "RM" in the catalog number just means it was re-manufactured.....perfect for testing and playing....Look around, these are just Stupid Cheap!!!!!!

Lesson learned = don't mess with your bread-and-butter router. My friend buys them at garage sales. I picked up some used ones at a swap meet for computer geeks. I must say, my friend talked me through this over the phone one evening. I have some WRT54G v1, v2 and v3 routers. They are the easiest ones to do because they have a lot of memory. I actually use the standard Lynksys web gui and directly converted the router to dd-wrt. Took ??? 5 minutes. Now I have 5 routers done to dd-wrt for other uses. These models are dirt cheap. Buy a couple. You brick one and its no big deal. I have not bricked a WRT54G v1-4 ever. That's how easy that one is to convert. NOT SO EASY when v=>5. So stick to v1 thru v4. V7 = not possible.

For clarification...
v7.2 is possible just not v7.0
I have a version 8 that I picked up for $3.00 at a thrift store....
I also found that when you think you bricked it, don't be so hasty. I have been able to recover mine by simply opening a cmd console and typing: ping 192.168.0.1 -n 1000
Then I bring up the tftp gui, load a bin I know should work (like the factory bin).
Leaving the cmd window in the background but still visible, I watch it as I unplug/replug the router.
When the pings succeed (sometimes this can only be 4 pings) I hit the upload button on the tftp gui.
With the right timing this gets my router back every time. And trust me, I did all kinds of messed up things to it....putting bins too large to fit in the flash memory, reformatting/partitioning nvram, using a custom 2.6 kernel I compiled (with the wrong drivers/kernel modules)....LOL...I have not been kind to my version 8 ;)
